• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I can make a group call or individual call with the UID and TGs that are programmed into the radio...but is there a way to manually dial in a TG number with a group call? Or individual?

I didn't think so...but just checking.

Full keypad radios support manual dialing for individual calls, and I know the NX200, 300 don't support it for group calls. Not sure about later models. Should be able to find the option in NXDN general settings

You can direct select the Group by keying in the "channel" number. If the group isn't already programmed in, you cannot manually enter it ito the radio.

Is that what you are asking?

Yep, that's what I was asking. Calling talk groups/UIDs that weren't preprogrammed.

Yeah, I don't believe there is a way to do that. And I'm glad there isn't. I set the radios up to access talk groups that the users are supposed to have access to, and not ones they aren't. Last thing I'd need is someone hopping on the wrong talk group...

Well, they could make it an option that's able to be toggle in KPG? The only users I am programming for are myself...and if I hear TGs that I don't have preprogrammed, I can't easily come back to them.

I'm sure they could. Not sure if it's available with front panel programming.

But, not a feature that commercial users need. The sys admin would set things up based on user needs.

If a radio needed to have new talkgroups added on the fly, that's what OTAP is for. Generally you don't want end users messing with the radio setup.

If it is, I can't find. All my NX HTs and Mobiles have the FPP license. Oh well, one can wish.

DMR, as I've come to view it, is largely restricted in function by the subscriber radio. The repeaters are pretty dumb and will pass anything in most cases. It's up to the radios meant to use it to have the functions set up precisely to make the system work properly and limit access to the most important settings: frequency, color code, time slot, talk group. FPP makes some of that accessible, but that isn't an option in use in most radios either.

If you want a DMR radio that is able to access groups manually, a radio with OpenGD77 or an MD380 with MD380 tools - both tailored for ham use, is probably the best route.
