The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Antenna connector on my NX210 is stripped out, won't take my kra 25. About how much would a repair for the antenna connector be? Is it something a dealer can do or do I need to send it to kenwood?

Dealer can do it.

I've got about 450 NX-410's in use, have since 2011. I had a radio come in like this about 2 months ago, first/only one. Part was not expensive, but would have required taking the radio apart and resoldering. Didn't mind doing that, but asked our end user if they wanted to pay to repair it. For a 12 year old radio, they decided to replace it. I kept it as a parts donor.

Dealer bench time runs in the ~$85/hour range, plus parts.

Part number is: E04-0416-25 RF COAXIAL RECEPTACLE (SMA)
It's about $7 if you can find a dealer that will sell you the parts.

Alrighty, I started to take it apart to the level I needed to get to the antenna connector and some of the screws were super tight, one was so tight the head stripped, so I didn't go any farther. $95 total doesn't sound too bad, little more than I was hoping for though.

With that stripped screw it may cost more.

I used to have a separate (higher) price if you tried to fix it yourself and screwed it up.

Yeah, Little worried about that. Screw was insanely tight, used the right bit size and it still stripped out. How much extra did you charge for something like that?

I haven't been on the bench for a long time but it wasn't a set price, it depended on how bad it was. Honestly it depended on the attitude of the customer, if they told me from the start what they did we usually didn't charge any more. If they didn't tell us and especially flat out denied (and kept denying it) the price went up.

I'm old, but the old saying "honesty is the best policy" still holds true.

I definitely plan to be honest, don't want to drive the price up. It doesn't seem too severe, just one stripped screw on the board with all the ribbon connectors. Thank you for the input so I know what to expect

Found a dealer local to me who is willing to work with an individual, price is 122 per hour with a 1/2 hour minimum. I'm having them replace the top rubber seal and lithium battery at the same time.

Well, the same thing happened to my railroad issued nx210. I glued it with JB Weld and it has been working great.

I did actually try super glue lol, didn't work the best. I now have rigged a bnc adapter and antenna by taking string and tying it onto belt clip screw, made sure to put some stuff around connector to reduce strain. Center pin also broke off so I had to improvise with a thin nail as well.
