    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value.     The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

    This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hi, I am trying to monitor a NXDN system with my NX-210 by programming the Rx Freq and simply leaving the RAN's to "none" This works on the local FD system but when doing it on the PD system I dont get the digital noise, but I get what sounds like people talking under water. Would this indicate that they are also using encryption?

Do I need both the Rx and Tx programmed and still leave the RAN to "none" ?

I've never heard unmodulated NXDN encryption, but the voice under water sounds like the "Scrambler" on the analog side.

The underwater noise is encrypted NXDN. Even if you had the keys, unless you have permission to use the system, it would be very illegal.

Just program the RX frequency. Leave the TX blank.

Set the RAN code to " 0 " and you should hear everything that channel is broadcasting; unless of course, they are using encryption...

0 isn't an option. Set it to "none" to monitor the frequency.

Okay, well apparently ICOM is different than Kenwood... One could assume that "none" on the Kenwood's is equal to "zero" on the ICOM's, but I don't think so... There are several features the ICOM's have that the Kenwood's do not; such as separate radio ID's per channel/system or a single global; Kenwood only supports one radio ID. Also, ICOM's has a special flag "RAN 0", which especially listens to all RAN codes, i.e. open squelch.

Another thing too, since you do not know the RAN of their system, I'd create a channel that was setup without the DPL and just set it for NXDN; also, somewhere in the Kenwood programming, you should have an option for what type of SQL on that channel, set it to all, not selective. I'm not too familiar with the Kenwood software so I can't be anymore help that directing you there. Good luck...

Its a service I didnt even monitor when they were in analog as they talked way to much and were annoying but now that they are NXDN and I cant hear them....I want to figure it out with my NX radio out of principal lol
