If I want to use an IC-R30 to monitor a frequency using 6.25 KHz wide NXDN but I don't know the RAN codes can I simply leave that blank in the programming? I am assuming that leaving it blank with no RAN programmed then the receiver will listen to all NXDN transmissions on a given frequency. Is that correct? Or alternatively I have read that programming RAN 0 in the R30 will monitor all NXDN transmisssions on a frequency?

If you program the R30 and leave the RAN field blank, then it will receive any NXDN transmission on that frequency and you will hear it. The display will show you the RAN that it is receiving. I leave the RAN blank on all of my entries in the R30, that way if a new one shows up, I see that one.

Ok, thanks. That is what I figured. Sorta like not programming a CTCSS or DCS on analog channels. You hear all transmissions no matter the code they use.

The same is true for P25 systems, if you leave the NAC field blank, you receive all transmissions and the NAC found will be displayed.

Ok, cool. I figured it was that way for NXDN but I wanted to be sure because this radio is made by an actual manufacturer of commercial NXDN radios and I was thinking there was a chance they made it so you have to program some value into the RAN slot. But fortunately they left us an option to hear all.
