It's pretty much the same combo of systems for any special event...

maalox,

Fleet Week is running concurrently with Memorial Day weekend. I don't have much to offer in terms of what to listen to from the Jersey side of the Hudson in relation to Fleet Week events. Here's what I'd propose from the New York City side (most of which should already be in a well programmed scanner - maybe locked out, but in none the less)...

NYCPD stuff:
In line with Bruce's suggestion above, click on http://www.n2nov.net/nypd_ems.html Look for the following channels:

Citywide 3 / Citywide 3 - SI for traffic control units along the so called "West Side Highway"

Traffic / Traffic - SI for escorts of dignitaries

Marine Channel 17 for the Harbor Unit. While we're at it, all the marine channels will likely have some sort of traffic, either from commerical craft, recreational craft or both. Click on http://www.n2nov.net/nycmarine.html Special attention to Channels 6, 12 (VTS south of NY Harbor), 13, 14 (VTS in NY Harbor), 16 (Calling), 19 (SI Ferry), 21 - 22 - 23 (USCG), 77 (party boats), and 81 - 82 - 83 (USCG). While you're on that page, scroll down to the LANT channels for Coast Guard exclusive channels. I'm sure the USCG isn't going to stay just on VHF. Click on http://www.n2nov.net/doitt.html and look for the Coast Guard talkgroups. I'm sure they aren't going to be the only users of the DoITT system during the week.

FDNY:
From that same link above...
FDNY engines will be posted on the piers for extra protection. I'd start with TAC 1 for unit-to-unit traffic.
EMS Citywide (1 and/or 2) and Command, if they stay true to custom, are the places where special events are going to handled. The bosses might be heard on the 800 TRS http://www.n2nov.net/ems800.html Make life easy on yourself, program the system in as a Motorola Type II.

MTA Bridges and Tunnels:
http://www.n2nov.net/tbta.html - special attention The VZ

Port Authority of NY & NJ:
http://www.n2nov.net/PAPD800.html The Lincoln Tunnel is scant blocks from the hub of Fleet Week events.

The media will have a presence. http://www.n2nov.net/nycmedia.html Traffic reports will be offered...see Metro Traffic

Some of the shore line in Manhattan is under the control of the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation. Their Parks Enforcement Patrol uses 151.205R (186.2). Operations are on 151.295R (PLs vary by borough - 131.8 for Manhattan).

The military bands will need to be searched for radio traffic, both in AM and FM mode.

And last, but not least, the GMRS, FRS, and MURS channels should be monitored for all the families that are trying not to get seperated and lost in the crowds.

Hello Everybody,

The latest edition of the Scanner Master book for the NJ/NY Metro area was published in 2003....I know Warren pours his heart and soul into each addition and it truly is a great resource.

Is their any word though on a new edition comming out any time in the near future? I would love to know at least a projected date if available.

Thank you for your help

Hey SCANdal...What is "LANT" when you used it in.." scroll down to the LANT channels for Coast Guard exclusive channels".
Also can anybody tell us about Frequencies that the FLEET will be using, The AirCraftCarrier and all Ships attached to the Group, as well as the AirCraft (JET) show and other military Frequencies (specific)
THANKS!!

Scanner Master is useless he cheats and steals and still doesn't get half the information right. I practically spoonfeed the Bergen County section to him and he still got most of the information wrong! That book is an overpriced paper weight!

Maybe that's because nobody asked for a particular topic to be covered. The pages on the website have grown out of questions received since 1997. I then do research, listen to the freqs, ask those who work for/near the target, verify what I can and only then do I post the info.

PS: Thanks to SCANDAL for posting the info on probable Fleet Week traffic.

Hey SCANdal...What is "LANT".
Dave,

LANT is short for atLANTic Ccean, one of two areas the Coast Guard covers. The PACific Ocean is the other.

PS
Charlie, my pleasure. I'm sure you guys are keeping an eye on the New Jersey portion of this board. A couple of good finds have already popped up there for avtivity on their side.
