I am looking for information on the alert tone used by the NYPD. Sounds like a Motorola "Alert 3" on speed. I was wondering if it is a programming option for a Motorola console or did NYC create it?

What I'm looking for is an alternative tone for priority jobs on police radio. The county uses alert 1 for everything in progress and it's numbing. The neighboring jurisdiction uses alert 2, so they don't sound like the county and we already use alert 3 for medical calls. The radio shop says the standard alert tones are fixed and can't be modified??

They Motorola ones are fixed. The only alternative would be to do a manual page off of the QCII board. I use to do that at times at the old job. If you have both QCII and "Plectron" buttons on the console, you can have some fun.

NYSP has all sorts of make/models on consoles. It seems that each troop is different. With them going Opensky in the next 20 years, at least they will be standarized for once.

SP Middletown uses the Alert 3, but I think its off of a Zetron console. Somewhere I saw a website that had sample sounds from all the popular consoles out there.
