I see there are couple new FCC filings for adding P25 Phase II on the NYCOMCO 800 EDACS system this month. I also recall a few years ago that a forum member mentioned NYCOMCO is migrating the EDACS system to P25, but with Putnam County P25 in full time use and Dutchess County P25 system soon online. Does anyone have inside scoop on whether the NYCOMCO system is being "re-vitalized"

Too little, too late in most areas, although some of the diehard suckers...err, NYCOMCO customers...will keep paying to operate on whatever they throw up. Especially in Ulster where there is no county system to join.

Yeah, those are the only sites still in use on the EDACS system.

Still no activity on the P25 system yet (surprising); the Control Channels just went online.

Please report back if you see activity. Frankly I think it will be months if not year(s) before you will hear any real traffic.

I wonder what the rental fee will be per subscriber. They use to rape us on EDACS and I'm going back to the late 90's/early 2000's. God I can't believe they still have that old thing glued together.

It's not going to be "years". They are already shutting down EDACS sites and pruning frequencies from the remaining active sites. Remember also that NYCOMCO leases a lot of the subscriber radios to agencies, and so all they have to do is replace the older EDACS radios with P25 capable models (if they haven't already), and so they dictate when agencies will migrate to P25.

I wonder about the Dutchess agencies currently on the EDACS system. Will they go to the new NYCOMCO P25 or to the future Dutchess P25 system being built? I would think that decision has had to already been made.

Is there a way to link EDACS talkgroups to p25? I think I've seen the Harris equivalent to SmartX converter but I don't know how it works with Tait. Maybe they'll just do a hard cut for the agencies.

If the Dutchess system is not yet on the air by the time NYCOMCO gets everyone off EDACS, then the decision is made for them...they'll have to move to the NYCOMCO P25 system even if they ultimately decide to join the county system. Either way they wind up with 700/800 MHz P25 capable radios, so it doesn't much matter which system they choose.

Yeah, I have seen some activity. Nothing major yet.

Honestly, whatever system they choose to switch to will be better than the one they're on now. I would think that they would all migrate over to DC P25 once it's operational, but then again, it's too early to tell. Mind you, NYCOMCO still has EDACS running, and it was EOL 10 years ago.

I have seen that before when other systems are migrating from EDACS to a Harris P25 system using the EDACS migration gateway, but I think that's proprietary to Harris. I don't know how that is done with Tait. We shall see.

Keep in mind that NYCOMCO also runs a new DMR T3 system using Tait. Seems like Tait will replace Con+ and EDACS, with existing users of both systems migrating to their respective new systems. But what do I know?
