TG 1 is currently patched with Poughkeepsie Town PD 01-021 on the EDACS system. Not carried on all sites, so far just Highland and Sam's Pt observed.

Probably testing audio quality and coverage.

Glad to see it’s coming to life much quicker than I thought

The patch sounds awful, which is to be expected when you patch an analog resource to a digital system. You absolutely do not test audio quality by using this type of patch; you use first generation source audio, i.e. real P25 subscribers talking on the system. I wouldn't say that anything is moving along quickly, rather this seems to be a direct results of the fact that some of the frequencies at Highland are licensed to the ToP, not to NYCOMCO (one of them being the control channel). The talkgroup being carried on Sam's Pt seems to be an anomaly, with the primary intended site being Highland for the ToP to check coverage.

How is the P25 signal off these towers? Is it traveling as far as the EDACS? I get moderate signal off EDACS where I am in Orange County, mostly off Mt. Beacon. Curious how I will do with P25. Probably not good.

Well, there's really only one way to find out.

Have you compared the signal strength of the Beacon EDACS control channel vs the P25 control channel? It really is that simple getting a sense of any difference between the two.

You don't need to load anything. You directly tune each control channel frequency and compare the signal strength.

Are they using the EDACS migration gateway? Usually the audio sounds grainy but no worse than using SmartX to convert smartzone to P25.
Unlikely judging by the poor audio, where you can hear every artifact from the EDACS system. Not even sure the gateway is available for a Tait system.

According to my Unitrunker, from my location, Beacon EDACS is about -20 RSSI, and Beacon P25 is about -25 RSSI.

I don't think they are using the EDACS Migration Gateway. That's proprietary to Harris Systems. This is a Tait system.

I remember reading some old docs alluding to integration into 3rd party systems for the migration gateway, but that may have been marketing or presales literature. I personally never saw it used outside of EDACS to VIDA.

On the note of analog to P25 patching, any crackling, rumbling, or static in the signal seems to get amplified in the AMBE codec.

Right, patching analog to P25 is awful, always is unless it's done with a proper migration gateway that grabs the audio right at the source without any molesting of it in between. Been there, done that. The giveaway here that it's a ghetto console patch or similar is hearing the EDACS "rumbling" in the audio, as well as the fact that multiple transmissions from EDACS are getting combined into a single transmission over P25. A migration gateway is pretty good about keeping them separate.

As stated I took a little ride in the Orange County area today. My trip took me into the county on 9W, onto 84W, off into Goshen. I stopped at a site in Goshen for a while and came back to the shop through Campbell Hall into Maybrook and back onto 84. Mt. Beacon held strong on the Unication the entire time. I don't have actual RSSI as I was driving and it was on my visor but I never got below 2 bars. Upon about Marlboro Elementary School I switched back to Highland.
