I havent been able to pick up the local police today and I heard some rumors that the sheriffs office is switching to some form of digital. Does anybody know whats going on? I just bought two new scanners last month for family members so I am hoping they were not a waste of money

Nye County Frequencies and Scanner Type

I have been having the same problem here in Pahrump.
In the newspaper they state that they have gone to the Astro System.
I understand that it is digital, but I have no idea which scanner to purchase.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?
Any help would be appreciated.

ncso radio

hi, ncso office has gone to Motorola astro 3600 baud system . its digital. since I am a beginner I am having trouble programming my radio. I am not sure my radio will work. I just started again today looking into this dilemma. from what I understand , some digital scanners will work and some will not.

This is what i posted on the NCSO thread:
-------------------------------
I say this with 100% confidence.
I'm listening to NCSO on my new Uniden BCD396XT portable scanner.
Also using a Uniden BCD996XT with the same good results.
Both are automatically switching between analog and P25 (yes,... display reads P25)
as the calls go out to either NCSO, Fire or MercyAir.
Scanning the Pahrump site for 800 mhz SNACC and it's trunk tracking perfectly.
I used RR's database and imported it into my scanner using FreeScan.
Turn off all the sites that aren't Pahrump and presto... Fast scanning.

Don't even bother with the VHF as the noise floor is so high
in this valley that it is itself, a possible RF radiation hazard.

Any questions, feel free to ask.

You are most welcome,

-p

psr-500

before I totally give up on the psr-500 is there anyone who knows how to manually program this beast. I am trying to manually program it , just so I know how. I haven't tried the software yet. its a lot more difficult than I anticipated. maybe my channel info is wrong ? maybe my system info is wrong ? maybe I just don't talk the same language as the grecoms do.

good news

hi everbody, I am happy to report that I have partial success. I have been able to finally receive traffic on my psr-500. I abandoned my attempts to program my psr-500 using TGRP method. I instead went with the CONVENTIONAL method. immediate success. I will look into this matter in the future to see what I am doing or not doing correctly with the trunking option (TGRP). still haven't tried software. thanks for everybody's help.

PSR-500

Program manual like this. First understand what a tsys is. It's a system that has freqs a bandplan and a name. Second tgids are items with a name and a number like kids and cousins are related to the tsys. All they need is a place to live "scanlist" So how to program manually.

pgm/f1/tgrp/ you will see scanlist: *01 if you want to use scanlist 1 leave the asterix if not deselect it by pressing sel (center of white big button) then select a new scanlist by pressing rt arrow to what you want.

once you find the number you want press sel and see a new asterix appear.

now press down arrow

tsys new press sel
type mot 800/900 press f1 save

ok now we have a tsys system
id wildcard

press sel

type 800/900
tag:system

press down arrow

press rt arrow

time to name the tsys to snacc here's how
rt arrow we already have "s"
blinking y hit 6 then 2
hit 2 then 1
hit 2 then 3
hit 2 then 3 again
hit rt arrow
hit cl
hit f1 done

ok time for freqs
hit down arrow
hit sel
ch01 hit sel
hit 859.9625
hit sel
hit down arrow
hit sel
hit 851.275
hit sel
hit down arrow
hit sel
hit 851.775
hit sel
hit down arrow
hit sel
hit 852.8
hit sel
hit down arrow
hit sel
hit 853.95
hit sel

hit f1 done
hit f1 again save
hit f1 again save
hit down arrow

time to assign a number tgrp

id: flashing and to the right wildcard
hit sel
w flashing
hit func
hit cl
hit 19984
hit sel
hit f1 save

now we see select object type to create

time to add the other tgrp for nye so south

hit f1 tgrp
again the asterix needs to be set to your preferred scanlist
hit down arrow
hit down arrow again
hit sel
hit func
hit cl
hit 20016
hit sel
hit f1 save

at this point you can scan

Now lets assign a name alpha tag to 19984

hit pgm
hit f2 edit
hit rt arrow
hit rt arrow again
hit f3 tgrp
hit rt arrow to get on your scanlist top line should read something like 05-0123 (random numbers) keep hitting rt arrow until the first numbers are your scanlist
now find the tgrp
hit down arrow until you find 19984
hit sel
hit down arrow four times until you are blinking on tag:
hit sel
hit 6
hit 2
hit 9
hit 3
hit 3
hit 2
hit rt arrow (creates a space)
hit 7
hit 4
hit 6
hit 3
hit f1 done

one last step
hit pgm
hit f2 edit
hit f2 curr (if snacc is showing)
hit down arrow until you get to t tables
hit rt arrow until it says custom
hit f1 save

hit scan enjoy

I am starting to feel like a dumb ***. I have tried again doing everything I am supposed to do , but no success trunking the 800 system. did I have to reband also or did the psr-500 updates take care of that ? the screen was displaying properly , but no sound. I still am getting ncso using the CONV. 158.955 and 154.785. any ideas ?

Try turning that off FUNC then ATT. You probably don't need that in Pahrump.

You're saying you still can't hear the SNACC system? Are you very sure the scanlist is active for your tgids? And none of them have been locked out L/O?

ATT is off. and there is nothing L/OUT. yes, the info comes on the screen such as the TGRP 19984 but no sound. I am baffled.
