I have a pro 651 aslo Im the ruber duck antenna
and I am Iocated in Uniondale NY and NO the Aviation Unit is knot talking.
but on I have my pro 651 scanner on correct am mode.

NYPD aviation like any other SOD unit monitors and gets it's jobs on SOD 470.8375 MHz in FM narrowband mode. Other situations can dictate them communicating on any NYPD frequency. Wherever you are and are hearing NYPD SOD you should be hearing aviation. To hear NYPD aviation transmitting on 123.1 MHz AM mode you have to be reasonable close to wherever they are working a job and communicating with heliports or other aviation assets because they fly at fairly low altitudes to avoid the flight paths serving JFK, LAG and EWR.
