NYPD getting new helicopters that will be faster, cheaper to fly
The four Bell 429 copters, which are replacing Augusta Westland choppers, also have better infrared cameras and improved tracking beams that can illuminate crime scenes or fleeing suspects, according to the NYPD.
Delivery of the NYPD’s remaining Bell 429 aircraft is scheduled to be completed in 2015.

Unfortunately for PP users and others who use services that depend on the aircraft transmitting its own location info, most helicopter services leave the location data turned off. I personally believe that the aeromedical birds should be required to squawk their positions at all times for safety reasons, but they are under the same ADS-B Out non-requirements as the rest of American aviation until 2020.

I also cannot figure out why ADS-B Out is not already required in the NYC airspace for all aircraft, but evidently the FAA doesn't perceive any significant difference between that area and any other place in the USA.

It seems likely that law enforcement aircraft will probably have some kind of exemption from the location requirements anyway.

It's best to use all the tracking apps.
PlaneFinder, Flightradar24, RadarBox24, FlightAware, Smartphone apps and Tablets Apps.
http://my.pinkfroot.com/page/aviation-shipping-apps

PlaneFinder and Flightradar24 has 'Push Alerts' available on their apps.
Just input your alerts in both apps.

PlaneFinder will show more tail numbers. Flightradar24 blocks more tail numbers from public view.

That would be great if they could all be shown on the same screen.
