This has been a pet peeve of mine for many years. Oftentimes I thought it was not cops but others who had programmed radios around the vast city.

Like every other occupation we have our share of ****** who fail to see the larger picture. Hopefully the ANI will solve or reduce the incidents.

Well hey, at least they're only playing around with radios, not pointing a loaded 9mm Glock at a fellow officer after being woken up while on-duty...right?

Sadly true. It was very common throughout my career, especially with the Rochester PD. (Sorry to single that department out from the rest, but they earned it.)

You know, the music, noises and other non-sense is one thing. Keying over somebody you don't like, trying to jam them should be considered criminal and should result in termination, not suspension. Trying to prove intent might be a problem though, unless you can establish a pattern.

If that other party is trying to call for help and gets hurt as a result of being blocked, additional charges should apply.

Go digital lol you'll just get a busy signal. :) Or atleast thats how it works on our radio system unless you press your orange button.

There is at least one fire department near where I live now that seems to engage in the same shenanigans. Somehow the interference only happens when a battalion chief is transmitting.

We also get the morons who sit on their portables during major incidents.

Public safety jammers should go to jail, no matter who they are, IMO.

I agree.
And walmart DOESNT OWN "THEIR" MURS channels.
But that is a whole different thread.

It bothers me that this is a thing to begin with.. are they all 12 year olds? Goofing off happens once in awhile, but I've never heard someone intentionally trying to jam another unit.. (Besides the random FCC violating crazies once in awhile.)

Cops in NYC make fun of dispatchers who don't speak English well-especially when they are trying to pronounce a street name, and the dispatcher repeats the name several times (in error) or he/she just butchers the name of the street. You often here them correct someone (in a joking manner) or whistle into the radio. Also, any arrogance over the radio by a dispatcher or (often times) a female cop with a foreign accent - and you will often here a snarky comment, a giggle or something. Not all radios are "traceable" anyway. And.....these snarky and funny comments are very rare, but they can be heard.

Police officers generally tend to view themselves as superior to the rest of society. Rules and regulations are suggestions for them. Not every cop behaves that way, but it does help to explain why such behavior is encountered as often as it is in law enforcement.

How long before we see an article announcing that the NYPD is going to full encryption for "homeland security" concerns?

ie., we don't want people hearing us sound like fools on the radio

Might as well point a loaded Glock, since jamming the radio can get one kiled. This has gone on for years, only now they can identify the radios
