NYS Trooper Freqs for Buff/Erie Co.

I've programmed nearly every freq listed at http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&aid=615 and NF2G's and I haven't picked up anything in nearly two weeks. Does anyone know if the frequencies listed on those pages are still used? I don't think they already switched to the 800MHz digital system...

I thought it was very quiet on interstate 87 and 84 intersect. I get a lot of Thruway authority.

NYSP do not have primary coverage in Buffalo/Erie county - nor in most of WNY - they are usually heard on the county sheriff's frequency as they work with those departments. You may hear some infrequent dispatches if you are near the base being used or some car-to-car transmissions. [remember base-to-car and car-to-base are on different frequencies.

Some counties use the licence plate number of the car [eg 3A27] - Chautauqua county uses the last three numbers of the radio number from the rear quarter panel [x723] apparenty because this is the GPS number that shows on their computer map display.

Voice traffic diminished when the MDT's went in service. Cars can e-mail / IM each other and the dispatches are sent via MDT.

I-87 is the Thruway and I-84 From the CT line to the PA line is patrolled by the Thruway troop also. 453.425 or 453.525 are simulcast so listen to whichever gives you a better signal.

Give these frequencies a try. They are for the Erie County Sheriff which you might hear the NYSP on.

Where I live, mobiles use a tone of 110.9 Hz. The base uses a few different tones, while the Clarence base doesn't use any, so it's best not to program a tone for the base, that way you won't miss anything. I also hear activity on 154.665 (110.9) car to car, 154.695 (CSQ) statewide emergency, and 155.565 (110.9) BCI. Anyone who lives near the 290 in Amherst can hear the Radar speed blitz' they do on weekday afternoons, on the car to car freq. The Thruway State Police in WNY use 453.525 and 453.425, both with a tone of 123.0

Thanks. Those 3 are new to me so I will give them a try. I have already programmed every other freq. listed on this page but I can't pick most of them up. I'm sure I need a better antenna system.

i have these freq's programed into my radio but i neaver hear anything....am i missing something?

What location are you listening from? I live in Clarence (NE Erie County.) In other counties, like Orleans and Genesee, the State Police transmit on those counties trunked systems. It may also depend on what antenna you're using. The State Police don't use repeater's here, except the Thruway. I use a Ferret multi-band antenna on a 40 foot pole with 9913 cable. If you're using a rubber duck or the back of set antenna's that come with the scanner, you're not going to heard the mobile's very far away. The base should come in okay though. Anyway, it doesn't matter much anymore. If NYS is successful with their Open Sky system, even the stuff I hear will go silent in about 6 months.

Im only 10 minutes away from you and i am using this antenna http://www.radioreference.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41921 not but its only 10ft above the grd however i do recieve buffalo and erie county sheriffs verry well.....am i missing something i have all the Police except nfta on conventional programing.

Don't worry about silence - neither Buffalo nor Erie County have the money for new radios = Erie County fire is NOT going on the new system = Chaurauqua Fire may move the dispatch, but paging must remain as is & individual departments will at most get one protable to contact dispatch [individual companies each have own licence for base and all the current frequencies]
Remember, unless Feds give grants for non P25 systems, no one has the money for radios. Each FD would need base, vehicle radios for at least 8 vehicles, plus at least 8 portables [8 x $3500, 8 x $4500, plus base]
