Hey All,

Recently, ive had an interest in monitoring the HELP Trucks Locally in my Region. That got me wondering where the HELP Truck in other NYS Regions operate.
I Have a list of where they possibly operate, I know of some but don't know the others.
  • NYSDOT Region 1 - Albany (Capital District)
    • I think they operate on the Albany/Schenectady County P25 System ???
  • NYSDOT Region 3 - Syracuse
  • NYSDOT Region 4 - Rochester
  • NYSDOT Region 5 - Buffalo
  • NYSDOT Region 8 - Hudson Valley
    • Operate on the OneVoice DMR System
  • NYSDOT Region 10 - Long Island
    • I think they operate alongside NYSDOT on their Lowband Frequencies ???
    • I think they also operate on the NYSP Troop L Parkways frequency ???
    • They used to have a talkgroup on the OneVoice DMR System a few years ago
  • NYSDOT Region 11 - New York City
What I'm looking for is for members statewide to possibly chime in and identify where their region operates. Im in the process of editing the local wiki pages with new and updated info and would appreciate the insight from other members. Thanks

I know on the Thruway (at least in the Orange County area, so Zone 1) they can sometimes be heard on the Thruway channels with NYSP.

As far as I know in the New York City region the HELP trucks operate on NYPD Highway/Traffic.

In the Rochester area they operate on the Monroe/Ontario Counties P25/2 system, they are dispatched on the Monroe County Sheriff's Primary Talk Group 2421. The Trucks are numbers 101-105.

They were dispatched by RTOC on TG 1231 as listed in the RRDB . When did it change?

They are on the Monroe/Ontario system, but they have their own TG: 1231.

It didn't. :)

Actually I cannot verify that they are still dispatched on 1231 since I don't listen to that TG. I know they are NOT dispatched on 2421.

They are dispatched on 2421 by the Sheriff's dispatcher, I have monitored them and have never monitored TG1231.
They may have another TG but they do get dispatched on 2421. I have all five UID's programed into Sentinel and they show up whenever they are called.

Ah ok so then it would be the NYTA that dispatches them? Their dispatchers would be in Albany?

I'm going to monitor 1231 tomorrow and see if they have a primary dispatch there and use 2421 when the Sheriff's Dept is the one requesting them.

Checking OpenMHZ shows HELP trucks in Monroe County are on 1231 as I type this. Unless something changed recently (and I'll leave that to those currently in the area) I don't believe they have any relationship to MCSO Primary. I've heard them call into East and West Admin channels under the call signs "HELP Truck 40#," and prior to that "DOT ###" (the latter has no relation to truck number, I believe this was changed for clarity). Trucks are numbered 401 through 405--they used to be 101 through 104 (or did they also have 5?) but this was changed when they received new trucks in June of... I can't quite recall if it was 2021 or 2022.

I believe the NYTA dispatchers would be calling them under 60# call signs (number on standard Thruway service contract plates on the left side of the truck) for Region 8, but I don't have any of these call signs documented. If you want a list of call signs and corresponding RIDs for HELP trucks on OneVoice I can give you that as well.

Albany HELP trucks operate on Albany-Schenectady 18701 with call signs 101 through 105.

I would imagine you're already familiar with the HELP truck beat maps on the DOT website, but if not I can send those your way as well.

Normally all road service on the Thruway is by authorized contract only and is dispatched system wide by the Zone Dispatchers all at the headquarters near Albany. I believe the HELP trucks only operate on the non-toll sections of the Thruway in major metro areas but would probably still be under the control of the Thruway Dispatchers.

Yes, if you are willing to share, I would be interested in RIDs for R8 Help Trucks on the OneVoice System. I am running a B Calls Node for 3 OneVoice sites and am capturing the HELP Trucks there if you want to check it out.

Yes, I'm also familiar with the HELP Truck beat maps on the website, but if you have different maps, I would be interested in them as well.

According to the beat map, it looks like they run from the Orange/Rockland county line all the way up to I84 in Newburgh.

Truck 441805111
Truck 1A1805115
Truck 3A1805117
Truck 5C1805129
Truck 1B1805143
Middletown1805163
Poughkeepsie1805164

And I don't have RIDs the the following yet:
Truck 2A
Truck 4B
Truck 12
Truck 24
Truck 36
Truck 47

Not as many as I thought I had, but it's a start (especially given the weird unit numbering system).

I really need to start putting RIDs for OneVoice on the Wiki--might do that page this weekend.

I have some IDs too to add to that list.

Also, I have an R8 Wiki page setup as well. If you want, you can add to that as well. Some info is not right. It is a work in progress. But it's also linked on the main OneVoice Wiki. New York State Region 8 HELP Trucks (NY) - The RadioReference Wiki

I added my list and yours to the R8 Wiki:
New York State Region 8 HELP Trucks (NY) - The RadioReference Wiki

I also added a page to the main OneVoice Wiki page for Confirmed and Unconfirmed Radio IDs:
OneVoice Network Radio IDs - The RadioReference Wiki

@seagravebuff60 Thanks, that gave me some motivation to actually do something with these IDs I've been hoarding, and they're now in the Wiki. I'll let you handle the HELP truck IDs as you see fit (i.e. putting them in the table, linking to the HELP truck page, whatever).

As a side note, it might be helpful to put on the HELP truck page where they get their truck numbers from (if it's anything other than just sequential assignment), and which are assigned to Westchester County versus the rest of the Valley (if it is, indeed, assigned).
