It been more then a year since the last thread had zero info. With a big wind storm today, with lots of power outages....Anyone have updates with what frequencies NYSEG is using in Erie County?
They are probably still on their old conventional frequencies. But, most electric storm restoration communications are on cell phones now. I can't specifically speak to what is going on in Erie County but, in the Rochester area, Avangrid, that now owns RG&E and NYSEG is not making any upgrades to their radio system.
As @k2hz eluded to, many utilities have decided that the cost of maintaining LMR systems is no longer worth the expense or effort, and have been using cell phones for years when voice communication is necessary. I'm sure that by this point, they are also using LTE devices where they may've once used an MDT. Some larger utilities might even have their own in-house apps on these devices that take care of the majority of routine things they deal with like trouble tickets and the like.
For the National Grid Batavia District east into Livingston and SW Monroe County you can try 153.575, 153.620, 151.190 and 151.475 all P25 NAC125 but you will not hear very much activity.
