Recently caught a unit number of 8K29 on the Columbia County Sheriff Dispatch (155.4300 PL146.2) operating with a Sheriff unit at an 1192 PDAA on Route 23 in the Town of Claverack.

I believe it to be a NYS Parks PD unit, but I had thought that they used 8Nxx unit ID's. Any ideas??

Thanks,

It could of been a small village or town that is dispatched by the state police, but last I thought they used 7kxxx

Definitely Parks PD. Rescue Squad was dispatched to meet the NYS Parks PD at that location with an intoxicated subject (hence the 1192 PDAA) and I also caught the same voice talking about the incident on Taconic Region Parks Repeater.

All the local PD's (except for City of Hudson) in Columbia County are dispatched by Columbia County Sheriff and have xCxx ID's. So that rules them out.

Thanks

The Parks PD have the ability to use most of the local PD frequencies in their coverage areas that's why I initially assumed it was them. However I had never heard (or at least noticed) the 8Kxx ID before. I had thought they used 8Nxx IDs.

83,

'N' IDs over State Police channels are reserved for the Department of Environmental Conservation's Division of Law Enforcement (commonly called EnCon Police).

The "8" designator has been instituted statewide for NYSPP according to what "Troop" area they are based out of. Why this was never done with EnCon eludes me.

Spec,

The DEC Police unit IDs used over State Police channels does ID the region of the unit, but the DEC region

For example 7N354 would translate to:

7 = Non-state police unit
N = EnCon Police unit
First # = EnCon region (ranging between 1 and 9, i.e.: 1 = Long Island, 2 = NYC, 3 = Hudson Valley, 4 = Upper Hudson Valley)
Second # (and third number, as needed) = specific unit

Thanks SCANdal and Spec.

I was aware of EnCon numbering, just mistakenly thought Parks PD used 8Nxx instead of 8+Troop letters. Thanks for clearing it up.

Hi SCANdal and gang,
I am aware of EnCON's numbering system however I think I didn't make myself clear. As most folks know the 7 designator is assigned to agencies outside the SP, and EnCON had the unique N as the second designator. I realize it does the same thing, but it just threw me a bit when they did it. After I reviewed the designator list I see why it was done now. Simply stated there were not any workable letters left within the standard SP setup and one other possible reason that is only rumored at this time.
