For the last few days have been hearing radio repair reprograming the troop car radios. They are transmitting thru a repeater with the output on the normal Troop L 155.460 freq. However the dispatcher is just transmitting normally on 155.460 simplex without utilizing the repeater.

Also hearing a CW ID being transmitted periodically that I've never heard before. Callsign WQI456 which is for the transmitter located in Plainview.

Input freq is 159.0825 DCS 306. This freq is under a license that went into effect on 11/21/2025 WQWZ680.
Other freqs that are also listed under this license:
158.8725 158.9025 158.9175

Now starting to hear on-duty patrol units that have been reprogrammed utilizing the repeater for comms.

Troop L now using a split duplex-simplex base repeater configuration on 155.460. The base station intentionally bypasses the repeater's input frequency 159.0825 (DCS 306) and instead communicates directly with mobile radios on their listening frequency 155.460 (110.9). Being used by Zone 2 patrols now. Don't know if it will eventually be used for Zone 1. Will have to see.

What you're describing is nothing out of the ordinary, in fact it's exactly how "4 wire" repeater operation works. The console(s) key the base station via a direct connection while the units in the field transmit on the repeater's input frequency.

That's how NYSP has always worked...

It hasn't been until recently that they have been piecemealing troop upgrades to moto infra such as in troop G. Vast majority is half duplex Mastr IIIs voted over copper.

Seems like the metro-25 link is receiving 155.46 as well. Only catching the dispatcher responses on the talk group any other comms heard on the vhf from field units is not carrying over. Aside from the numerous radio tests on the vhf channel they've been doing tests periodically on the metro side more often recently. Nothing new on the suffolk county system patch

Same thing happens on their Suffolk TRS TG 231. You will sometimes hear dispatcher replying to someone that's on 155.46. Dispatcher has the capability on their console to transmit on multiple systems simultaneously. It is not activated full-time though. Just depends on how they have it configured at that particular time.

As of this morning radio repair now reprogramming and testing Zone 1 units to use the repeater. Will be very nice now to be able to hear units that were out of range for me on simplex.

155.505 110.9 is readable in Babylon area. It's Troop K Poughkeepsie. I don't believe that Troop L uses it.

So now is Troop opening exclusively on 155.46? Have they abandoned 155.505? What's their new radio layout?

Yes, Troop L primary dispatch freq is 155.46 in Nassau and Western Suffolk Co's. They use the standard statewide car/car 154.665. Statewide Emergency 154.695 mostly just used for radio checks.

They have a TG on Suffolk TRS for Eastern Suffolk Co Riverside barracks units for comms with Troop L dispatcher in Farmingdale. I don't know if they also have a VHF freq out there. I have heard them on Southampton Town PD 154.845 at times. Guessing they probably have capability to use any of the other East End town PD freqs also. Can't confirm because I'm too far away to hear those depts.

Have heard them sometimes in comms with Suffolk Co PD on the Suffolk TRS Command TG.

They have a TG on the Metro-25/MTA MRRS which is used sometimes primarily in Nassau Co.

Have traffic of guy calling in on 159.0825 and being replied to on 155.46. He was 4 miles from me.

Used to hear zone 1 and 2 on Troop L Base (155.505). On 155.685 I only hear zone 2 traffic.

Ah ok 10-4. Thanks for the info! From my location, I am hearing Framingdale Dispatch & Zone 1 Mobiles on 155.46 PL 110.9. But it's all parkway talk. I'm assuming the input is 159.0825 DCS 306 to the repeater? (Although I doubt I can receive that from my location). I haven't heard a Zone 2 unit yet tho. I also picked up a CWID of WQI456 on 155.46.

Sounds like everything is pretty much confirmed now. The database should be updated with a submission.

Like I said, used to hear z1 and z2 traffic on 155.505. Parkway was always parkway with z1 and z2. On 155.685, I only hear z2 traffic. I removed pl from stored freqs and added all freqs from frn to a department and let that scan and log. Possible z1 may have its own channel now or they may have restructured how they dispatch.

Also seem to remember a few weeks back that one frequency was simulcast on MRRS and another simulcast on Suffolk.
