Tennessee Governor Phil Bredeson announced today that the City of Oak Ridge has just "received a grant in the amount of $983,783 for police communications projects."
Sounds like P25 coming to that area someday soon?
The announcement comes as other projects around the state for things like radars, cop-car cameras, software and such.

I am new to RR and I live in Oak Ridge.

Currently I just fixed my Pro 97 and got the trunking channels working again by reprogramming it with Win97 and subcribing here. Anyways I assume this grant money is what is going to cause them to go digital in the near future I have been hearing about correct?

Any idea what kind of time frame it takes them to switch?

The RR DB shows Oak Ridge to have a mixed system "Analog and APCO-25 Common Air Interface." Back in 04 the fcc granted the license. I know that they dont use the digital part. All the radios are still analog trunking. I was told there supposed to get some more of those car mounted license plate reader systems.

my local radio shack has heard 2 thing.

1. Oak Ridge may be changing in the next couple weeks.
2. They have heard Oak Ridge may be in some form of encryption so we may not be able to listen in on them.

I know I am not wanting to be the first person to buy a digital scanner and then find out I can't listen.

My local radio shack even recommends waiting until the change over, which was my goal anyways.
