I found this on MissionCritical Communications, Radio Resource International, and Public Safety Report - wireless voice and data communications for mobile, remote and public safety operations

Tyco Electronics Wireless Systems’ P25 to the power of IP (P25IP) digital communications system was deployed in the city of Oakland, Calif. The implementation of the P25IP network is the first stage in the city’s migration to a Project 25 (P25)-compliant digital radio communications system, which will support Oakland’s police and fire departments, and a number of other city agencies, including Oakland’s Unified School District.
The trunked system will also enable interoperable communications with first responders in Alameda County and Contra Costa County, and marks the first completely operational LMR IP-based P25 trunked system in the Bay Area.

Will this effect scanning in oakland?

does anyone know how this will effect scanning in oakland. will i still be able to monitor police/fire radio here with my pro-97? It is very interesting that the radio will now interface with ip, i wonder how secure the ip traffic will be or if it is vulnerable to attack. Would it be possible for hackers to monitor transmissions or worse inject transmissions? crazy stuff for sure! Also, will the trunking system still be EDACS? Thanks!

"Delivers P25-Compliant System"

It is P25 on the air, the IP is in the network.
This is not that different than other P25 systems, just hyped very well.

Hi, If it is a pure P25 system the PRO-97 will not be an able monitor it. You would need a PSR-500 or a BCD396T or the new BCD396XT when it comes out.
