Bloomfield Township has just completed it's training on the new Open Sky system and equipment. Radio installation has begun as of today, 12/10/08, and should be complete for the fire department as of this week. The radios will simlucast ( for now ) on the old 800 frequency.

All police and fire are expected to switch over after 1/1/09. It is unknown how the stations will be alerted in the future, currently tone alerting takes place on the current 800 sysytem.

Bloomfield Township PD migration to Open Sky

I lived in Bloomfield Township when I first really got into scanning back around 1980. Kinda seems like the stone-age compared to these days... Anyway, Bloomfield Township PD was on 155.655MHz, which they shared with Birmingham & Bloomfield Hills PDs.

Then I think around 1984/85, Bloomfield Twp PD switched to the mysterious 800MHz, so I had to quickly come up with the $$ to buy a Yaesu FRG-9600, which I recall at the time was one of the very few scanners that could do 800.

If I recall correctly (& if I do, I'm one pathetic radio geek because I moved out of the area over 20 years ago), Bloomfield Township PD/FD was on 855.1625 for dispatch ops & also had a rarely used secondary 800MHz channel used for occasional PD stuff & FD fireground.

Is it this old system that Bloomfield Twp PD is now migrating to Open Sky from??

853.1625 & 853.2125 are the freqs Bloomfield is leaving for Open Sky. If I remember correctly those 2 freqs are supposed to become part of the Open Sky system.
