Oakland is a Little Funky

For some reason last night, I could not receive OPD all of a sudden. This morning was the same. Then, I realized they are not broadcasting on 02-021, 02-22 and 02-23, they are broadcasting on 12-073 and 12-011 -- wonder what's up?

They are patching those groups together at certain times. Also the service channels 02-026 / 027. Some scanners only show the patch, others show both groups.

The temporary patch talkgroups change a lot, but they only have about three possible configurations that it could be.

1.) Service 1 and 2 patched together.
2.) In the evening, they'll patch Patrol 2 and 3 together. Patrol 1 remains separate.
3.) Patrol 1, 2 and 3 all patched together. This is called "Citywide" and usually happens in the middle of the night or early morning.

So if you find a new talkgroup with OPD traffic, listening to addresses and the content of the messages will help you figure out which of the three it is without using software.

i was wondering why the patch switches so much lately ive seen at least 10 different i d s in the last month from 12-010 - 12-130 is there something to that or is it meaningless

Oh, I see. I thought that might be it at first then I figured that all three areas operated 24/7seperately. Kind of figured they were testing or fixing.
