I programmed in the 2 frequencies listed in the RR database for my town's PD...45.56000*/ 100.0 and 45.98000*/ 100.0 along with Freqs for surrounding towns. 99% of what I pick up on my scanner is Wyckoff PD on 158.78250*/ 146.2.

Are there any other Oakland PD freqs? Would there be more in any of the books that are sold?

Oakland PD

I have heard Oakland PD on 45.9800 100.0 before. How long were you monitoring? It's a quiet town with not a lot of calls, if you monitor long enough, I'm sure you'll hear something like I did. It does happen! I never tried monitoring the other frequency but on Bergen Scanner's website it shows 156.7 as the PL. You might want to leave it without a PL and see what comes up. Those and 151.3775 123.0 as a fireground frequency are the only Oakland public safety frequencies that I am able to find. I doubt that there are any others in books or anything as this site and bergenscanner is pretty updated. Good Luck.

Oakland Police use 45.9800 100.0 with a repeater so you should have no trouble hearing them. Oakland Fire and EMS and DPW all use 46.5600 156.7 in simplex (non repeater) mode. 45.5600 is no longer in use as far as I know, never hear any traffic on it. Oakland Fire Department also has a highband fireground frequency 151.3775 123.0 that is used in simplex (non repeater) mode for fire operations. If your scanner is capable of Midland Park and Wyckoff's frequency 158.7825 you should have no problem programming in 151.3775 to hear Oakland FD. You will however not be able to hear neighboring Franklin Lakes PD unless you have a digital scanner, they have just switched to 470.4000R in APCO-25 digital mode last week from 159.0900 123.0 their former simplex (non repeated) frequencies.

It looks to me like they are using a "illegal" (but they are the police, right?) UHF channels maybe some type of "pac-rt" from the cars or UHF linking to remote Rxr's. Check out 458.0625, 458.2625 and 458.6625 with DPL You will be surprised what they are doing.

Thanks.

I am all set with the fire freqs. I guess Oakland is quiet. I am born and raised in Jersey City and my parents always had a scanner. So you could see why I expected a little more radio talk.

They = Oakland?
Is this all low power transmissions?

Thanks

Ok that explains the CC hits I have on my 246 from Oakland Area. I have 458.2625 and 458.3875 I think the DPL I saw at one time was 306. They are not using them illegally if they are 5 watts or less. Any PS agency can use a frequency as long as they are under 5 watts. Since they are being used as vehicle repeaters they are most likely under 5 watts for sure. Maybe cram33 can confirm these frequencies since he is in Oakland. If they are being used for vehicle repeaters you will not hear them outside of Oakland.

I entered 151.3775 123.0 in my BC8998T and when I hit E it stored as 151.3800. Will that still pick up?

I have both of those freqs as Paramus Tactical with diff PL. Do I program these as regular freq / PL ina channel? This is for Oakland?

It should, but doesn't the 898 have 7.5 splits??? I read somewhere that the 898 has it but its under 6.25??? I saw on one of your other posts you had Wyckoff and Midland Park PD 158.7825 programmed in. If you are able to enter 158.7825 you should be able to put 151.3775 in. As for the UHF freqs put Tone Search on them and see if you hear traffic on them while Oakland is transmitting on 45.9800. Or do a search in the 458 range while Oakland is transmitting on 45.9800, you may only hear something if an Oakland PD unit is in your neighborhood since they are probably very low power transmissions on 458.

There was a big call yesterday and I got many hits on at least one of these if not both. They were used by Oakland police cars.

That is correct. Set the step size for 6.2 and the frequency will enter as 151.3775.

High Power

I am hearing them when I cross over the NY/NJ boarder in Suffern / Mahwah on Rt. 287. Is that 5 watts, saw a "slick top" with a small UHF antenna on it. Probally the 458 transmitter, right?

Well you are not terribly far from Oakland and are mobile, I have got CC hits on my BC246T while traveling on 287 in Oakland area. Yeah now that you mentioned it I have seen Oakland cars with UHF antennas on them, I just figured they might have a UHF radio for M/A to Mahwah and local 287 towns that are UHF. Now its obvious its part of the vehicle repeater system. They are probably using Pyramid repeaters like these:http://www.pyramidcomm.com/svr200.html Since Motorola now longer makes the PAC/RT system.

What do you want the UHF RT-Pac freqs. for if the low band is repeated?
Please don't give me the you want to know what is going on in your neighborhood line.

Just for info. Police NOT fire are allowed to use any freq. under five watts on handhelds. This does not mean that the RT-Pac's are legal since they use car transmitters.

It would not be a big deal for them to license this freq. The only fee they would be paying would be a one time "co-ordination" charge to one of the co-ordinators.
