Odd...all they did was combine sites and the radio should choose the better site. And now that Ramapo and Garrett are on the same simulcast cell, their radios should stay parked on Site 17. Maybe they'll roam to Alpine butI doubt it. Has to be more to the story.

In listening to inter op 4 today I heard mention of “I heard dispatch but officer ______ didn’t and he was sitting right next to me” (referring to the ICS system)

Sounded like it had to do with some subscribers missing transmissions

The day of the switch of Ramapo being absorbed into PC, dispatch said they were having issues with the portables. This was heard with their TG on NJICS.
Explains why I didn’t hear them much today....

Forgot to post last night. About 20:00 heard Oakland back on their TG on NJICS. Monitoring on PC Simulcast. Unsure if they were still there this AM. Traffic sounded good on my 996p2 while mobile, and dispatch/units didn't report any problems copying.

They are and have been using ICS for the last 2 days. They have coverage issues but that's nothing new for them.

Oakland having problems again...

heard and officer say he was trying to affiliate to montclair and was getting denied.

Since everything is now Passaic County, that shouldn’t be a problem right? How would they have access to Ramapo(now on PC) but be denied on Montclair? Any insight here?

I don't know why they are having so many issues. My APX works just fine. As a matter of fact, when Site 17 was first listed as a peer to West Orange I affiliated over no problem. No one touched my radio, simply the site being announced caused the affiliation based upon RSSI. I've got great reception all over Bergen and Passaic.

Oakland has very difficult terrain to overcome. Half the town sits in a bowl that on one side faces Franklin Lakes and the other sits right against the cliff by Skyline Drive and 287. I'm not sure where exactly the Ramapo tower sits (somewhere off skyline if I recall?) If so, thats directly underneath the ramapo reserve and I can see that having some sort of signal overshoot phenomenon where it has limited coverage directly under the cliff. While on the other hand I know Bergen County site at saddle ridge in Franklin Lakes may actually give better coverage and directly on the other side of town almost opposite the Ramapo Site (if thats where I think it is). If the county has 700 on this site it may be just a better bet to use that.

As an update, I am told the problems they were experiencing had to do with the DVRS they have installed in their cars. They never missed transmissions with the portable radios, only mobiles. The DVRS frequencies were too close to the newly acquired Monticlair cell frequencies and desensitizing the rx of the mobiles. Just what I've heard through the grape vine

Correct, Ramapo site is the one on Skyline and you do get some umbrella effect. I don't recall if the County 700 site up in Franklin Lakes is on the air yet. I know Stag Hill is. I believe Wyckoff and Midland Park are using UHF subscribers still for that area for that reason. I could be mistaken.

Explains why my APX was working just fine in that area.

Wyckoff PD has both UHF APX Mobiles and APX6000Li Portables. Midland Park also has VHF/UHF APX Mobiles and APX8000 all band portables.
