Ben96Cal, the monitoring site is near the baylands of northern Santa Clara County. I'm actually outside the Bay Area right now. The site uses a Sinclair omni about 10m up. Does toggling your scanner's AGC setting have any effect?

MtnBiker2005, no I haven't seen anything other than what's in the Pro96Com report. Seems to be a trend with new systems in the area including San Mateo's and the EBRCS' 700MHz systems. One might think that this info would be helpful to techs resolving interference issues.

I documented Site 101 back in 2008 with pro96com. At the time we suspected it was on Grizzly Peak (I thought there were FCC licenses to back this up). It looks like they rebanded the frequencies, and totally renumbered the talkgroups.

My understanding is one site at the building downtown, one at Seneca and the new site at the Oakland water tank up in the EB Hills near Grizzly.

Awesome quality on the new system. Numerous dead spots and digital effects galore. Far from being better than the old analog edacs.

Last night a Sgt was on the air trying to request to "hold the air" at the end of a tense pursuit involving shots fired, a passenger foot bail along the way and a ending with a tc at the dead end of 90ave. Brought back memories of the days of CB : the dreaded echobox effect. Later the dispatchers warned the officers to not transmit near other officer's radios to prevent echo.

Also many negative comments on the PD side heard like: "These new radios are terrible"

I heard the exact same thing you heard last night the new radios seem to be dangerous to say the least
but i bet a couple people got a little richer off the new system

Well the system is going to be tested today and Monday with the Mehserle release and protests around Oakland.. Hopefully there are no issues that crop up with the system on both PD and fire side.

I took I car trip with the scanner and laptop today into Oakland. Drove through Castro valley and up Redwood Road to the backside of Skyline Blvd.. I started hearing the digital system and the edacs system as soon as I got to Willow Park golf course. that lasted about a mile then one big deadspot until about redwood X Pinehurst Rd then it was just the edacs sytem.. The P25 system sounds terrible on a 796... As soon as I got the redwood X Skyline I was picking up the Edacs @ Broadway, Seneca and the P25 system. Not a lot of traffic seemingly on the P25 system today.
Drove up the Grizzley peak and parked (gorgeous view). The P25 system was booming 5 bars since i was right about 1/4 east of the repeater.. See the below of what I saw..

Properly implemented, there is nothing wrong with trunking for public safety. Installing and using trunking in 7/800 MHz using only the sites that were used in the old VHF or UHF systems is not a proper implementation.

Trunking works fine in other areas of the state (Orange and San Diego, for example). These systems were built to provide the coverage needed by the first responders on the street. In San Diego's case, numerous new sites were added to meet the coverage requirements.

I am going to sound like a salesman here but even VHF and UHF systems have problems. When we got our new VHF system a few years back even with all of the testing that went on there was an intermode problem. It did get fixed since we have great radio guys and the BC who was in charge of it is a HAM and knows radio. One other thing, the system gets built to the specs they are given.

I got the same information on my file today. Looks like those are all the freqs for site 2. Nothing heard on Site 1 or Site 3. I have the NAC used on the site, but my phone is dead at the moment

852.2875 was the control channel today, not 854.1875

Seems like there's consistent problems with these systems, and the negatives outway any operational positives. OPD would be better served with an updated and modern conventional system, as would other public safety entities. But that would go against the current nonsense of "Interoperability."

Does anyone know why when listening with a pro 162 to oaklands analog simulcast on the senica site i am not getting patrol 2 i am hearing pat 1 and 3 without a problem but no patrol 2
