obtaining fcc broadcast license

hi im not sure if im posting in the right place but maybe hoping for some help. i was wondering how to go about getting a broadcast license from the fcc and what kind to apply for. we would be using the radios for personal use ( farm) and a few of us severe weather spotters to keep in contact during severe weather. right now we use vhf but tuned down and using m.u.r.s so not much range.

First of all a Broadcast License would be something like what a radio station (AM/FM) or Television station would have. They transmit, you receive. Amateur Radio cannot be used for "business" and not sure if using it on a farm would count or not. A lot of weather spotters are indeed Amateur Radio operators, and that is often one of the primary modes of commutation. If you are wanting a radio for you farm work, CB or FRS (Family Radio Service), or go to the GMRS, however, GMRS does require a FCC License. If you are just wanting to have personal use (no business) than a Amateur License is okay. However, with this you need to take a test. There is a cost, however, the license is "free", and good for ten years.

Family Farm?

If the farm is operated by members of his immediate family then GMRS is likely the best option. One $85 Licence covers the whole family, and the maximum power is 50 watts ERP. Sufficient for most property.
