I can't seem to find P25 settings on my 996XT that will allow me to get reliable digital reception on the current OC Motorola CCCS.

I'm using the latest 996XT FW (the one just released). If I set the P25 mode to the recommended value of 11, I get a lot of P25 errors on all systems (LAPD, ICIS, OC CCCS). If I change the P25 mode to 8, I get good decoding on LAPD, both ICIS systems, and the new OC system (the P25 system currently in test mode), but I still have problems decoding the current OC CCCS Motorola system.

I'd like to know what 996XT P25 settings others are using if they're getting reliable digital decoding on the current OC CCCS system.

Thanks.

Well the first problem might be the upgraded firmware to your radio. I use to have a BCD996XT radio and never had to touch the P25 settings to receive any P25 traffic on the CCCS system. Some of the digital talkgroups use to have a little bit of issues since the Uniden radio seem to have a little trouble decoding some P25 traffic.

I ended up buying a GRE PSR 600 and there has never been any issues with P 25 traffic on the CCCS. I dont think you can even adjust any of the settings on the P25 mode anyways. What a difference between owning a GRE product over a Uniden radio but thats my preferences because I have had both of the units too.

Also, I had trouble with the BCD396XT too with the same issues so I went and bought a GRE Radio Shack Pro 106 and no trouble either with P25 decoding.

I seem to think its a firmware related issue. I would try and revert back to the old firmware but not sure if you can or not. Good Luck

Actually, I had the same type of problems with previous FW. I was hoping that the new FW would solve the problem, but it hasn't. I'm not really in a financial position to buy a new radio just to listen to one system that's in the process of (slowly) being replaced. I'm hoping that someone else with the same radio had found a solution that they could share. Or, if they aren't having any problems, they could check what settings they have and let me know so I could duplicate them.

Well I would try each individual settings on the number dial with the P25 settings. Well you know my fix was to dump the radio and buy another one but that was two years ago. There are several forums and threads with the same problems even on other trunking systems country wide with the same issues.

The problem is also that there has not been any new models in the past few years and they just are trying to put a band-aid over another band-aid to fix the digital mod problem. Uniden is aware of the issue thats why they have been releasing newer firmwares which fix some issues with Simulcast systems but the same problems still exists on other systems that were not addressed or fixed. Trust me I had the same issue on older firmware with the same trouble..... Good Luck on finding a fix
