I have been hearing OC transpo security being patched in on EDACS system in ottawa. Is there a move to completely switch all OC transpo frequencies to EDACS or just the security and paratranspo channels?

Just to confirm it was OC transpo security i took the other scanner and had the 411.6375 channel and the EDACS patched channel playing at the same time. I knew the voices sounded familiar. I don't have a solid I.D. on edacs.

Have been listening on and off over the last three days or so.

01-093 Seems to be maint trucks talking to St. Laurent garage.
01-081 is Supervisors
Lots of patching going on to 15-091 and 15-086 and 15-087, that's patches within the EDACS system like 01-081 to 15-086
Activity today also on:
01-085
01-082 patched to 15-087

Can't nail down much more than that so far since I am only listening through ProScan 2100 nm away and can't listen to two scanners at once. Was a bit quiet yesterday but seems a little more active today maybe be able to get more with just EDACS and a conventional bank going.

Don't bet the farm on those numbers, just starting to nail some of it down.

I've been hearing mostly speculation about this, so decided to
let Etrunk do the walking.. Looks like patch TG info is broadcast
on the CC even when otherwise idle.

Here's a short log capture showing patches and the patched TGs.
No others were active at the time.

Patch 1990 patches TGs 754 and 753 (ParaTranspo)
Patch 2010 patches TGs 68 and 1380 (Airport Fire to Ottawa Fire)

Patch 1991 patches TG 194 to 410.1375 (OC Transpo Supervisors).
Patch 1993 patches TG 202 to 411.6375 (OC Transpo Security).

The last two patch TGs are analog, but I don't hear anything on TGs
194 and 202, so they might be ProVoice. I'm not hearing anything on
193 and 203.

TGs are in decimal which I find way easier to track than AFS.

Last time I checked 190-220 range TG's were all Digital. I think i saw a 800mhz antenna on a Security Charger recently...will try to confirm later this week. Probably more interoperability related rather than switching over all transit operations...

Definitely not all digital. Getting at least 4 TG's in that range Analog.

Well, listening to OC transpo security. They do periodic tests. Like the one i just heard at 1:30pm today. They wanted to know if the officer transmitted on the new base radio or the portable radio with a test count., to determine which ID belongs to him/her. Sometimes it would work, and other times they would get a totally unrelated number. I can only assume this is the ID they are getting from in relation to the patch tg's on EDACS. I believe this is an in transit process which they are working on. This is really going to add more traffic to EDACS then there already is. It will be interesting to see how this pans out in the next coming months. So for i can only hear bus maintenance, oc transpo secuirty, and paratranspo. All other OC transpo units are only on conventional, with these 3 using conventional patched into EDACS.

Sure seems to be a lot of experimenting so far. Not everything hooked up at all times.

Supervisors Channel has been there too.

I don't think the bus fleet is ready to move over yet, until they add 3-5
more channels (a guess); based on ~1000 busses with say 500-600 running
at any one time. That would give a loading of 200 mobiles/channel using
three channels, which is a reasonable number.

Based on visual observation during peak periods, I've seen most LCNs
busy at times on System 1; don't know about System 7. No queueing
seen (special LCN) which means they're not running too close to the
limit.

I also expected the TGs to show up in the 760 range, near the other
transportation TGs and temp/special-use Transpo.

That's a busy system at times. When I am scanning I always have stuff like Para shut right off. Besides the fact that it is mind numbingly boring drivel, those guys never shut up. They must have one or two LCN's tied up all day!!

From OC Transpo Budget "UHF radio system will be non-compliant with Industry Canada
regulations effective January 1st, 2010. Currently, City of Ottawa senior management direction is to
consolidate the Transit radio system with the EMU EDACS system. Conversion MUST start in 2008.
Total conversion cost $12.8m."

Also mentioned is "Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), Incident Management and Reporting system for Transit Law Enforcement. Required for compliance of Special Constable Program with Ottawa Police Services and Provincial Ministry of Justice standards and regulations."

So looks like Buses will be transitioning over the next summer...

From recent monitoring the patching of OC Transpo the patching between the UHF channels and the EDACS system seams to change a bit. Currently;

Patch 1993 patches TG 202 to 410.1375 (OC Transpo Supervisors).
Patch 1991 patches TG 194 to 411.6375 (OC Transpo Security).

Based on recent monitoring It looks like patch group ID's stay constant by user, but the patched TG's change.
