OCALA - someone was just shot and killed

Ocala, OPD incident number 15766 at approx 1:30 PM, OPD RECEIVED A CALL that someone was shot. This was reported to have happened at 3000 Lake Wier, close to the school. School lets out momentarilly, as it's a scheduled half day of school today. From what I have heard, it is not a student. This may have been involving an argument between 2 people on Lake Wier Avenue. The 911 call that the police recieved was placed by a man, stating that a woman was shot. PD attempted to call back the number, a man answered, but was uncooperative to questions on the phone. FD was called in, along with EMS. FD apparatus was cancelled, as not needed at the scene. The area is being baracaded off, Major Crimes has been called in at this time, along with OPD detectives. The OPD notified dispatch that this is a signal 7 (dead person) and the M.E. is being called into the scene. It appears that this incident happened with-in Ocala City limits, not Marion County Sheriff's jurisdiction.

At 1:50 pm, the radio is getting quiet again.

Woman, 35, shot to death at home on Lake Weir Ave.

OCALA - A 35-year-old woman was shot and killed in a home at 3000 S.E. Lake Weir Ave. Wednesday afternoon.

Marion County sheriff's deputies were investigating the homicide and, by 2:30 p.m., had taken a man into custody for questioning.

The homicide victim's name was withheld pending notification of her family.

Sheriff's Office spokesman Capt. James Pogue said the Ocala Police Department received a call from a cell phone at 1:20 p.m. Officers were on scene at 1:23 p.m.

The crime scene is in unincorporated Marion County but is near the Ocala city limits. The home near South Ocala Elementary School and across the street from Oakhurst Apartments.

Marion County sheriff's deputies were investigating the homicide Wednesday afternoon and had taken a man into custody for questioning.

Sheriff's Office spokesman Capt. James Pogue said the Ocala Police Department received a call from a cell phone at 1:20 p.m. Officers were on scene at 1:23 p.m.

Burnett was found on the living room floor, and a gun was on the kitchen counter, sheriff's Maj. Chris Blair said.

The man taken in for questioning was Steven N. Papadas, of Coconut Creek, with whom Burnett had an on-again-off-again romantic relationship, Blair said.

At about 5 p.m., detectives were seeking a search warrant for the home.

Burnett's boyfriend, Raymond Desjardin, 39, was outside the home later Wednesday afternoon. Speaking amid tears, he said she was the mother of a 2-year-old girl and was a full-time student getting a degree in business management at Central Florida Community College. The child was at a relative's home at the time of the shooting.

Desjardin described Burnett as a sweet, wonderful and good person.

He said that he tried to call her from work, as he would always do, in case she needed something, but he couldn't get ahold of her. Desjardin said a former boyfriend - who he described as a 50-year-old man - was supposed to come by the house and go lunch with her.

When Desjardin arrived at their rental home, he saw the crime scene tape, Desjardin said. "Obviously, something was wrong."

Their landlord, Terry Treesh, said they'd been living there about two months.
