Listening to the different fire and EMS units in Ocean County can be a bit crazy. Their numbering is curious. I am in Burlco, and our system is easy to figure out what type of truck, from which station is responding. I can't figure Ocean's out yet. Anyone know the code?

Burlco Example:

"Engine 2321 responding."

23 = Delran
2 = Delran Fire Co. No. 2
1 = Primary Engine

"Tanker 2516 responding"

25 = Medford
1 = Union Fire Co.
6 = Tender/brush unit (depending)

So any help would be great.

The fire apparatus numbering was established by the county. All apparatus has a four digit number. The first two numbers indicate the station. The 4th number indicates the type of apparatus. The third number is chosen as an identifier by the individual fire company. Example: Brick Township Station 24 (Herbertsville) has two class A pumpers: 2411 and 2431. To use 2431 as an example: 24 = station number, 3 = their indiividual identifier, 1 = class A engine. They also have a class A pumper that carries water and foam, 2437;
24 = station number, 3 = their individual identifier number, 7 = class A engine (water and foam). Hope this helps.
