I've been listening to the OC trunked system all this week and lately have been hearing some CW with some static in the background on some of the frequencies. Since late today, I've been hearing what sounds like conventional radios from another state or county talking on 506.662 MHz and some other frequencies. They have some static in the background and are calling "Stations". It doesn't sound anything like Ocean County nor anything I heard in New Jersey. Does anyone know what this could be, or is this just another agency using the system?

I can see, one of the people on the trunked system said that they can pick up Delaware County, PA and Hunterdon County, NJ. One even said he heard a Flordia repeater, like you did.

EDIT: I just heard someone say that they were picking up North Carolina on UHF.

On the old county police 1 (VHF-Low, but I don't remember the frequency) we hear people in Texas all the time. We think it's a prison somewhere down there based on what they're saying.

37.180 County PD-1.

The TRS also gets hit with interference from a TV station up in Rhode Island or farther North alot. I forget who it was.

A radio tech I know told me today we are getting a lot of skip because of a weather front that is slowly making it's way towards our area. Once it passes, things should get back to normal.

I can't hear PA anymore, though the morse code is still loud and clear, with the exception of some static. It seems it passed.

Amazing, I can't even pick up Northern New Jersey with my scanner.

THE SIGNAL TENDS TO BOUNCE ALONG THE WATER AND THERE ARE FEW OBTRUCTIONS TO BLOCK THE SIGNAL OVER THE WATER ALSO...HENCE THE ADDED RANGE.[/quote]

Some radio tech's. yesterday were saying that they were picking up some kind of narrowband data on one of the trunked channels. I didn't hear it, though.

Hi guys,

The other day there was a fantastic band opening, I hope it's the first of many more to come. NJ is famous for coastal tropo ducting, under good conditions we hear the whole Eastern Seaboard and into the Carribean. Sometimes on VHF, sometimes on UHF and sometimes both, it is selective sometimes and sometimes not.

For what it's worth, try FM broadcast and TV DXing, those bands open not only for tropo but sporadic E propagation as well. My best TV so far was channel 4 from the Carribean coming in like a local. Got that one on tape, ironically the CE was giving some kids a tour of the transmitter facility at the time. Of course UHF opens too and often better than VHF. I'll give you a clue, if you want a QSL write to the general manager to forward to the CE. Today he's in charge of the whole broadcast group rather than babysitting one transmitter all day.

As a radio ham I enjoy working DX on 6M, 2M, 1.25M and 70cM but it's been rather so-so the past couple of years. I hope this will be a good year for a change, turn off the PL, listen and have fun with stations you don't often hear.
