Chief Bryant's plans for budget cuts were announced about 2-3 months ago. It amounted to 4 stations closed and several other rigs placed out of service plus reductions in other areas such as training, admin, etc... (there's a link to his proposal on the KOCO article)

On the closed list were: Fire Station's 3, 4, 11 and 28.

Rigs out of service were: Engine 51; Ladders 9, 14, and 18; Tankers 35 and 37; and Brush Pumpers 15, 20, 23 and 25

In addition, it was 139 firefighters laid off, starting with the last ones hired and down from there.

I know just on our side of town, we're really worried because that puts them VERY thin with Tankers and Brush Pumpers. Station 3, 15 and 37 are our primary OCFD mutual aid stations and each one is either shut down or minus rigs under this reduction plan.

They could look at corporate sponsorship for police and fire just like they've done everything else in Oklahoma City. We could have the Devon Energy Fire Station 3 and Cox Communications Hefner Briefing Station, for example. For a modest annual commitment, small businesses could put bumper stickers on police and fire units.
