I'm trying to get my Uniden BCT8 programmed to pick up OCPD 800 Mhz frequencies. I have the frequencies set up per their order and am receiving various talkgroups except no dispatch out signals. I'm particularly interested in monitoring Hefner division.

Any ideas?

Thanks, I must have missed that thread. It looks like many of us in neighboring departments aren't going to be able to monitor them in the future. So much for mutual aid.

Alright, i've again plagiarized some of freqscout's post into the FAQ I created. His has hints of being plagiarized from the same post I plagiarized from :)

Regarding ESK, the system does have the capability for ESK operation. Maybe some of the folks with EDACS radios can check the feature list on portables to see if it was a purchased and installed option. Based on discussions i've heard and RFP information/responses, ESK seems to be a very real possibility. The FAQ I created doesn't say that it has been implemented, only that the system has the capability (which it does), but has not yet been implemented.

If ESK does appear/disappear like SA, a sticky stating the ESK status (similar to SA) would be prudent.

The handheld radios do have the ESK option (Option 21).

Some people say it's coming. Others don't. Most don't know what ESK is, or don't care because all the "good" stuff to listen to will be ProVoice. I think we'll just have to wait it out to see what comes up. Trust me, I'll be one of the first to let y'all know if I start getting ESK (since the regular etrunk won't work after that - but another version will).:)

If it is implemented, I would like to see a sticky similar to SA's (people in other parts of the state probably wouldn't like it, but it is a "state-wide" forum).

I was in the city last Thursday and I heard dispatch on PD/Fire channels on the new system fine on my BCT-8. No provoice. I heard Hefner, Bricktown, Will Rogers, and Fire dispatach and ops, in the clear. btw, I can hear the city system all the way out to about mile 91 near Hydro on I-40.

That's where they will get you! There is so much ProVoice now.

We have been over this before, but if the officer/FD uses his/her old radio to talk, it will be analog (or "clear" as you put it) over the EDACS system. All PD dispatches are digital over the EDACS (but not all units - yet). The FD alert stuff still seems to be analog, but FD Dispatch (not all units - yet) is digital over all the FD TAC channels.

And yes, it does have pretty good coverage, doesn't it? You can sit on top of the Whichita Mountains in Lawton and trunk it too! I would be interested to see how far the PD/FD can get with mobiles (with a better antenna than a 1/4λ - maybe something like a 5/8λ). I have heard someone say during testing, someone took a handheld to a baseball game in Stillwater, and used it from there (I bet he was up in the stands).

It's funny but yesterday about 5:30 am I was hearing both OHP and OKC's trunking system, inside my house in Elk City, with a rubber duckie on my 246. Weather must have been good.

For the record; OKC will Not be implementing ESK. As noted in other threads, Provoice was not chosen to avoid montoring. If we want to do that, we would have implemented ESK. Any talkgroup that needs to be totally private will be encrypted.

That's great, I bet there are a lot of officers and fireman's spouse's out there that are going to feel a lot better being able to listen in to the new system.

They better be ready to pony up some cash to buy a M/A Comm radio! (and hope the City will sell them one and program it for that system).

That does bring up something interesting. The Media has radios. Say a spouse with an extra 3 kilobucks lying around wanted to hear their spouse at work... I wonder what the city would do for them (or allow them to do).

The officers and firefighters spouses need to find something else to do besides listening to the scanner. That's a good way to worry themselves and get worked up over nothing. If it became a problem in my house, the scanner would get removed.

These folks watch all of this BS on ER and Rescue Me and crap like that, then they wonder if that's what we're doing out in the world. Just what we don't need. Just say NO when it comes to spouses listening to the scanner.

After 32 years in the fire service I don't think my wife will allow me to pry the scanner away from her. She HAS to know. I'm sure others have the same problem

I wonder if there is a plan to put in a "Lawn Service Dispatch" talk group? Seems like that is what a majority of the OKC firemen do when they aren't "working".
