I'm trying to figure out what some of the letters are for on the back of OCPD cruisers. I know that you can determine what year the cruiser is from one marking. But I'm trying to figure out what division these two letters are in: E & T

Here's what I know:
H - Hefner
S - Santa Fe
W - Will Rogers
?? - Springlake
E - ??
T - ??

The T unit was seen shooting radar out at the airport (transportation?).
Not sure where the E unit was seen.

Once we confirm whether T is traffic or training, we should put these on the OCPD page along with their individual officer unit designators (Adam, Baker, etc.). I don't think it is training, as this officer was apparently working alone, shooting radar, and did make an arrest on the scene, then quickly returned back to his spot to shoot more radar. I think it's probably Traffic.

W= will rogers
S= santa fe
E= spring lake
H= hefner
T= traffic (all of the flat top cars are traffic)
SCH= schools
PCR= public relations
REC= recruiting
TRNG= training

As for unit numbers, the first two are the year, the second two, are the type of vehicle and the last three are for ientification. 0713110 would be a 2007 full size sedan, this is used city wide not just police dept. 12 is mid size sedan, 30 is full size pickup usually a one ton, 33 is a tandem axle dump and so on and so on. The last three of the unit number are on the roof behind the light bar and the assignment letter is in front of the light bar as well as on the trunk lid.

Actually the car w/o the lights and siren wouldn't be too bad. Don't need all that but the horsepower would be pretty sweet.

I'd be willing to bet the last 3 digits are the last 3 of the VIN :wink:

i wish it was something with a purpose like that but unfortunately its not, they have a list of unused numbers and whenever new cars come in they just start fillin in the blanks. they usually try not to skip around too much but its hard not to and not have two cars with the same last three numbers. by the way the 08's are due in november i think and they will probably have halogen vistas like most of the others. sorry

A friend told me that T is also the Bricktown units.

ya know ive been wonderin if they would give the newly opened bricktown briefing station their own designation but they havent atleast not yet anyways. all of the bricktown cars have one of the other designations i think its spring lake but i cant remember for sure, freq would know but t is traffic stuff like the slick tops which are called signal 30 cars or the unmarked RAID units,

hey gilligan sorry i forgot about gangs its past my bedtime but ill make it up to you, the city usually has an auction atleast once a year and you can own a fine piece of okc pd history or even an ex emsa ambulance if youre the lowest bidder :), ill let ya know when the next one is if youre really interested

OCPD units

T units are also at the Airport so I'm assuming the Airport is under the traffic division.

I know the first 2 numbers are the year model of the piece of equipment. And I think the 3rd and 4th numbers are the vehicle type or department designation.

For example 9957069 = 1999 model

The "T" designator is definitely for Traffic Division and it may be for the entire Support Services Division which includes Bricktown, Airport and many more support units.

This is the OCPD website for Uniform Support:
http://www.ocpd.com

Then click on "Operations" at the top and then "Uniform Support Division" in the text. I tried to paste the direct link on here, but it will not let you go directly to that page.

Speaking of car numbers, the Hefner Division website states they have boats and 4x4's. I'm curious, what would the boat number look like.

Nah t is just traffic. most of the "support services" stuff is either assigned to a specifc briefing station or is unmarked.

The boats are numbered like the rest of city equipment, 7 digits first two are the year, second two are vehicle type, and last three are identification. The maintenance on the boats is contracted out so the shop never sees them. The harleys are the same way, theyre leased so the dealer handles all repair and maintenance. I dont know off the top of my head the two digit type designation for the boats but Ill look up one of them monday if i remember. Probably somewhere above 50.

They do have a couple dodge and ford 4x4's for lake patrol mainly. By the way the two digit vehicle type for any over the road four wheel drive is 24. Its not a perfect system but it works.
