Anyone have information about whether or not Oregon Department of Forestry will migrate OR have a VHF patch to the OSRP system in the future? Specifically NW Oregon and the Willamette Valley (Forest Grove to Eugene). Not sure why so much money was spent on the system AND ODOT and OSP are still on VHF with a patch over to the OSRP 800 system. WDOT in Washington has a system that I think is working fine for them?

I doubt you'll see ODF on OSRP for years. They interface with too many fire departments, rural in particular, that most likely won't move. They also communicate with BLM, USFS, and other federal agencies that are also on VHF. In addition, the radios don't work when you're out in the middle of nowhere and no tower.

There isn't any plans to migrate ODF to the OSRP system. 700-800 MHZ doesn't work that great in the woods/forests.
The reason OSP and ODOT have patches to OSRP system is there are some dead spots in the system, and mainly its to keep interoperability. Where I'm located I hear Eugene units talk on the OSRP Talk group for Flo-1, and when they get out of rang of the TRS they switch to Vhf , but units in the valley can still hear traffic of Flo-1 on talk group. It really doesn't make sense not to have the patches up.
