My Office & Attic Antennas

Just got done running coax to the attic! I Have a Diamond D-130J (removed the top portion of the antenna which covers 25-50 MHz reception because is not required. I did that to get the antenna higher up! I am running RG8X to the Diamond.

I have two small Laird Mag-mount Antennas on a piece of stainless steal. One is an 800Mhz Antenna, the other is the all band antenna.

I also ran my Scantenna up! But its being run on coax and is JUNK! Reception is absolutely horrible on it.

My next goal is to purchase a YAGI 800MHZ. I think that would do incredible up there. I would run LMR400 for that! Any suggestions on which type? I would be monitoring in the 850-870 range.

I have the coax running in the wall and coming out of two separate outlets inside my office.

Hiding in a coffee shop.
Ideally you want -real- Times-Microwave LMR400. There are some Chinese knock offs out there that are not built as well. Be very cautious about buying on line.

Nice job on the install.

I was considering similar attic install for few antennas (receive only) but my roof is steel. How much signal loss I can expect because of that?

Steel roof? I wouldn't expect too much from an attic install. Gotta get the antenna outside, IMHO.

Thanks for confirming that, looks like I have to talk nicely to chief commanding officer over Christmas or she will say what this another ugly thing doing on the roof? bugger. By the way, apex of the roof or side of the house on j-pole, about 2m difference in height. Or the "height is the king" scenario.

IMHO get the antenna above the roof peak if possible. Lower, and the roof would possibly induce directionality, multi-path...
