Summit County, OH - A 24-year-old Boston Heights Police Officer died Monday morning after being struck by a truck.
The accident happened around 5:30 a-m on State Route 8 between Hines Hills Road and Boston Mills Road.
Police say Officer Jarod Dean was standing outside his cruiser when he was struck by a box-like truck.
The truck was a food service and vending company. The driver of the truck, 51-year-old John Gavelk, is not in police custody.
Officer Dean was dispatched to the roadway to clear debris.
Dean is from Hudson, Ohio.
Officer Dean was single and has a brother who is also a police officer. Officer Jarod Dean has been a police officer for two and a half years and has been with the Boston Heights Police Department for six months. Prior to Boston Heights, Officer Dean worked for the Windham Police Force.
The accident remains under investigation at this time.
