A Detroit police officer was injured during a standoff with a suspected thief at a dollar store on Detroit's east side.
An armed man went into a Family Dollar store Sunday evening, Local 4 reported. An employee triggered a silent alarm, and everyone left the store with the gunman still inside, the station reported.
Police and a SWAT team surrounded the store, and tear gas was released inside the building in an attempt to arrest the man, Local 4 reported.
An officer who was standing in a barricaded area outside the store was then hit by a car that drove through the crime scene tape, Local 4 reported.
A witness at the scene -- whose name was not available -- said everyone moved out of the way, but the officer didn't see the car coming. He said the vehicle then continued to drive away from the scene.
The officer was transported to a hospital, where he was being treated for injuries that were not life-threatening, Local 4 reported.
Police arrested a woman -- in her 20s -- who they believe was driving the car. She is expected to appear in court Monday.
The man police believe tried to rob the store was also taken into custody and expected to appear in court Monday.
