OK, here you are - it's blurry - taken with my cellphone camera. It's supposed to be available shortly, for around $200 or so. The "red" display is more of an orange, but more red than my 785, and less red than the LED indicators on my Audi - which are damn red.

It looks great. However, if it is $200, I would purchase another BCT15.

I was hoping for a lower price point so that you could use it with the BCD396T or BR330T. You can easily take the handheld in and out but have the Remote Head mounted.

Can't have it all.

Yo, but it's real... It's bigger than I expected, yet it does not have it's own speaker - but it does have a connection for an external speaker.

So are you saying that it has an external speaker jack on the remote head? I thought I read somewhere early on that you had to plug a speaker into the radio itself.

Thanks for the picture. I was starting to wonder if the thing was real or not!! Now if we can get a price from someone.

How did the display look? Well lighted in your opinion?

I've been wondering that myself. Maybe Paul can clue us in on that...

I'd rather not have to run a lot of extra wires if I can help it. It would be nice to only have to have 12V power to the radio and the head, and be able to run a non-amplified speaker right from the control head.

That ~$200 price point is a little steep, but dang, anything's better than what Scanner Master was charging. I suspect a lot of public safety agencies will be buying these remote heads, so $200 ain't so bad with taxpayer money...

Grove Enterprises has it on their Web site under "New Products" for $199.95.
from the Grove web site
"Uniden BC-RH96 Remote Head
$199.95
ACC98

Controls all functions of the: BCD996T; BCT15 ; BCD396T ; BR330T

Including Volume and Squelch. Just add a remote speaker for complete remote operation. X and Y dimensions are the same as the BCD996T/BCT15. Z (depth) will be about 2 inches and the power/data jacks are on the back. There will be a jack for firmware updates that faces downward. There are channels on the back for routing the wires.

Both HH and mobile will power on with external power, so if you connect them to sources that switch with the ignition, they'll auto power on when you turn on your car. Of course, with the HH, you'd want to remove the batteries for that configuration.

Speaker is driven by the scanner, no connection on the RH. There are way to many speaker options out there to lock you into a tiny speaker that we could fit into the RH, and why clutter up the front with more wire runs? So:

a) Use the scanner's speaker (if it is in a convenient place for hearing the audio), or
b) Run the audio up to a dedicated speaker, or
c) Connect the audio to your stereo's AUX input, or
d) ...

Red was chosen to minimize night-vision issues. Gee, of all the features, for this to be the most controversial...it is starting to rival the great "blue backlight" discussion of the BCD396T (which substantially disappeared after the product came out...1 or 2 hard-core dissenters asside).

Several folks stopped by to take pictures and discuss. Pricing is set by dealers, not by Uniden, so watch their sites for more pricing info. Unfortunately, their price list including this item was held for CES, so pricing is coming out rather late, but should start to show up more in the coming weeks.

I should have said " - and it doesn't have a connection for an external speaker."

Sorry for the confusion.

How is this possible? I've removed the batteries on my 246, powered on via external power, killed external power, reapplied external power, radio did not power on. Firmware upgrade?

Probably relates to the new firmware I'm running (will come out for the 4 supported models around the end of January to incorporate RH support).

Does this mean that the POF command for the 996 will work "correctly" then? Woot.

The decision for red was made months before this thread started, so that would certainly predate post 100.

I'm not sure of the effect of the POF command on the 996. I'm sure if it doesn't work correctly, I'll hear about it from Engineering, if not from one of you guys. Of course, our definitions of "correctly" might differ... :)
