A couple of simple question which may already have been discussed or are premature??

1. The wire that connects the scanner to the remote head. How long will this wire be. What kind of connector is on each end - I presume this must match existing plug-in sockets on the scanner and RH.

2. How long is the power cord? The cord that Paul O. in an earlier post said had a cigarette adapter on one end of it.

Thanks

Per UPMan is reply #116:

3. 10-foot serial cord that can be extended with commonly available headphone line extenders (3.5mm stereo plug). Cigarette-lighter plug-terminated DC power cord (about 4 ft). Both included.

RH and cable shielding?

Hello to the group, I have put off the purchase of a new mobile scanner for some years now as my BC780xlt has served me very well and there is no p25 activity here yet. Ive always wished for the remote head option from uniden and I am glad to see it taking shape but I do have a question.

1.) As a ham I always have several rigs in my truck (hince my need for the remote head) and of all the scanners ive had in the past including the bc780 ive noticed that rf from the other radios cpu easily gets into the scanners. im sure the 996 is a new and better breed but am concerned about the cable not being shielded and letting any stray rf in the cab of the truck travel along its length and into the radio. Do the powers at be here know anything about this?

I know this isnt a really big deal especially if your using a decode tone but in Ham world where there is alot of CSQ used it becomes a consideration for amateur use.

2.) Display color - If yaesu can put variable color displays in all band all mode mobile radios that cost less than $800 then i bet its safe to say uniden could for a little bit more. Seems like posters here are hardcore and with the advent of radio reference uniden is getting alot of free research and development. I agree with them about the display color and have found it nice with my yaesu stuff to have the ability to change the display color depending on personal preference or as needed by the operating conditions. Since this appears to be a big selling point it should be addressed and if they are not willing to do a multicolored display then at least design the remote head as to allow relatively easy disassembly so owners can replace the led's with whatever color they desire.

KI4LIV here... I was able to get past this problem one way - and one way only... I had to move the antenna for the scanner to a different level than that of my dual-band radio... I now have my scanner antenna on the roof, and my CB/dual band diamond on the "lip" of my truck's bed...

When I had mounted with their bases at the same height, if I keyed up the hammy (on either 70cm or 2m), my scanner (listening to 800 on a dedicated 800 antenna) went deaf... Since Ive done some swapping around, the problem has been resolved.

How does the remote head work? By means of the cable but where does the cable hook up to on the main unit? and how long of a cable do they give you? Sorry if this is allready covered but the thread is very long now and a pain in the butt to search it....

1. It will be solid black with white (light grey) key markings and a chrome "scroll" knob.

2. Display is red.

3. 10-foot serial cord that can be extended with commonly available headphone line extenders (3.5mm stereo plug). Cigarette-lighter plug-terminated DC power cord (about 4 ft). Both included.

4. Wires can route below the back surface (there is a channel for routing). Nothing "sticks out" of the back when connected.

5. U-bracket is included.

6. Still on schedule. No chance for earlier.

Field testing is about complete w/no major issues, so unless there are factory problems (rare) I'm looking forward to releasing it to the wild in February. I will have samples at CES hooked up and running.

Never mind just read it... :)

Would it be possible to get a production update from UPMan on the RH96?

Maybe even a hint on what part of February (just over a week away----I know I'm splitting hairs!!) we can expect to see if for sale??

And I know the display is red............but will we be able to adjust the brightness or will it be one size fits all.

Thanks!!!

I wish it didn't cost nearly as much as a new BCT15.

True, but the beauty that Scanner Master really broke the bank. I am really excited about this being affordable.

After looking over the owner's manual, I like the RH 96 even more. Now for the street price and actual availability.

When using the remote head where does the sound come from?
The radio? or the remote head?
If not the remote head then why in the world would we even bother with it?
I ask because there is no reference to audio except for the volume control in the manual.
It is my hope that the remote head has a speaker in it. Some how I doubt it since it is not shown anywhere in the remote head manual. I hope I am wrong.

Nope, no speaker in the remote head. Have to use either the scanner speaker or external speaker.
