This is my next "radio" purchase. I have my current line-up just the way I like it, BCD396T, BR330T, and BCT15 (base scanner). I want to use the 330T in conjunction with this remote head (if the prices is low enough).

Feb 2007? is the release date. It would be great if they could get it out 2 months earlier for Christmas!!!

Any idea on price point.

OK, I have changed my mind. I already have the 996 in the truck. I just relalized I would be using this remote when I have the 396 in the wifes (our commuter) car. It's a VW Passat which has a blue dash illumination.
I hope the display can go BLUE!:D:D:D

I guess you'll be BLUE! if it doesn't ;)

I think $200 is too high. $150 and below would be about right in my opinion. $129.99 or $149.99 would be good :D

Then you better hope it goes on sale at your favorite Uniden reseller. ;)

That preview image shows a very red screen - is this actually going to be red or is it going to be orange?

Green blows and is depressing like the old pro92, 93, and 95

How about something that's a bit easier to see like an orange or even a softer blue?

I could go for blue too, but I hardly say green is a bad color, look at the BCT996T in green.

The BCT15 has a "red" display that is actually orange. That image is most likely a photoshop concept. After all we all want to see it turn green right?!? take a look at the display on your BCT15: http://home.earthlink.net/~dzeyenr/996.html ;)

Yes, I know it and the 996 were pre-advertised as red; the settings even list it as "red" but it is clearly orange. This new remote head absolutely has to have green or another color; if not they are not properly designing/testing their mobile units.

Oh and I agree the image is most likely CAD or photoshop generated, BUT those programs all offer millions of colors to choose from. If its going to be orange or green or pink or brown or - you get the point - it should be that color in the prerelease advertising.

It wasn't that long ago that pretty much everything had a green backlight. Just think, if that was still the case... ALL scanners would match!

I probably already piped up earlier in the thread... but Uniden: green, please. Something easy on the eyes in a mobile environment.

(If it could switch between colors, well all that much better.)

Something switchable like red, green, blue, would be awesome.

If its intended to be used in a mobile application day and night lighting is an absolute necessity; oh I guess I already stated my opinion. ;)

A quick question for UPman... do you know whether this head will be compatible with international versions of the BCD396T, ie. the Australian/New Zealand model? I presume yes, but before I actually buy one in the near future, I would like to make sure.

Thanks!

The item needs to be $99.99 max or less, if it's going to appeal to any "real" number of BR-330T & BCT-15 buyers, & I don't see any reason why it shouldn't cost less than half of what a BCT-15 goes for ....

UPMan mentioned in another thread that he has no input on the Australian UBC versions. I'd send Uniden AU an email asking for it.

That would be great, but I don't think you'll see it. Add a 1 in front of that. ;)

True I'd use it for mobile, but another one on the base would be great. That why I want multiple colors. Hook up the BCT15, set it to red, hook up the BCD396T, switch it to blue.

I'm going to guess that street price will be somewhere in the $150.00 range. That's a bit spendy to control a lower end scanner, but right in the ball park for a 396/996T.

This is out-fricken-standing.

My vote for screen display color would be user selectable (R, B, G). My second choice would be blue, and my third choice would be green. Red (orange, amber, etc.) would be my last choice. It looks like the color in the picture (red, orange, amber, or whatever it is) is not a popular choice.

The BCD396T blue is a winner.

However, red is the optimal color to preserve ones night vision. So when you get out of the car at night, you aren't still seeing the glow of the scanner face ten minutes afterwards. This is why there are red filters on GI flashlights, etc.

It doesn't cost that much to add more than one color LED. I have bought a cheap pen that lights up three different colors, selectable by the user.
