I guess I wasn't specific enough. Uniden made great efforts to promote their product here. Did they talk about this URL here? Did they state their official plan here?

Maybe I wasn't specific enough either:

As for it not coming from Paul, maybe he is on vacation. Lord knows he deserves one. Oh wait - that's the same words.

Who else have you seen from Uniden post here? I understand your point that it would have been nice to see it directly from Paul. I'm also sure that he would have done so if he could. Apparently, he is tied up with other things right now. I'm sure this issue put a lot more workload on his desk along with the 'normal' workload he has. At times, he has mentioned things on one source and not another. It was passed along by someone else and was usually followed-up with a note of thanks from Paul later on.

Given his routine postings on the various sources, it's obvsious that he hasn't had a vacation all summer except for Dayton (which was still work for the most part). Maybe he is on a beach with some PYT somewhere in the Caribbean. ;-) Considering all he has been doing here, I think he deserves a break - even if it's just to get caught up on things at work. If he is on vacation, maybe he won't be able to post for a week or two. Granted, this is speculation on my part, but the evidence right now seems to support my conclusions.

i know you have a high loyalty towards uniden and an even higher loyalty towards optiz--and thats fine.

but, no. the evidence doesn't support your conclusions; you're pulling conclusions out of thin air. there is no evidence that paul is on vacation. did he declare it? maybe paul was abducted by aliens...

everyone who downloaded their software was required to submit their email address; we all are on their mailing list. they even managed to email me about things that are not related to the 396t--what we signed up for--or even scanners for that matter. a mass emailing about this subject would have been easy to do.

I'll second that...

There's just no pleasing some people...

And I will agree with both of you. I got several private emails from someone after I replied to wolter that sure sounds like him and his irrational tininking. It looks like he might have several user names on here.

First, yes, the alien abduction is another possibility. I just figured that another reason was more likely. :p

As for loyalty, yes, I greatly appreciate everything Paul has done for the scanner community, including this board. I also have several GRE units, so I'm not so sure it's blind loyalty, as I like those units as well. In fact, if I were buying a base/mobile P25 scanner today, it would be the PRO-2096. That said, the PRO-96 and BCD396T are very competitive units. I would say the BCD396T has the advantage at present based on the features I use/need. But, I own both and use both daily.

Yes, you said it exactly right - EVERYONE who DLed the UASD submitted their email. However, that is little to do with those who have reported the problem, which is maybe 10% of the owners, if that many. Maybe they didn't keep tabs on THOSE email addresses which is why they are asking for submissions to a specific email address. I can understand their not wanting to start a panic by emailing everyone with a 396 (and likely some who don't even own one) with such a message. That's not loyalty - that's good business sense.

As for Paul, I know from his past posts that he makes frequent trips to Japan on business. Maybe his laptop broke. There are a lot of explainations that are possible. All I'm asking is that we give the guy a break, and he deserves a vacation if he hasn't had one in about a year (which the evidence DOES support unless he was making posts on vacation).

There are a few other explainations I can think of, too, but I don't even want to mention those, as I hope none of them are true for all our collective sake. I too hope we hear from him soon and we can stop the guesswork about Paul and get back to discussing the BCD396T.

I think he was referring to those three users (TechTwo, MarkEagleUSA, and ICP963) who were implementing me on something that another user said, even though I had nothing to do with it. That is very off topic. . .and very childish.

It was from some of the bickering that went on. I guess I should have quoted it. I just wanted to read up on some of the opinions of the radio and I guess I got upset from sifting through the crap posts. Now that I see they are having a problem with the silkscreen coming off and there is no plans on fixing it on what they have in stock in the near future then I guess i will wait a little longer to buy one. I'll be back once they have that problem fixed.

thats funny. none of the distributors have them in stock.

i am sure that the problem is being looked at and a solution is at hand.
no i dont work for uniden and no i cannot quote someone there.
they do know of this problem-why else would paul ask for serial #'s etc?

if paul has something to say, then let him say it!

I apologize for my recent absence...had a few unexpected events that kept me out of pocket for the past week or so.

But, I see that the empire didn't collapse while I was gone, word did get out about the print fix (if you missed it, somehow, go to http://uniden.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/uniden.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=1007 and follow the instructions given there).

Next task: UPMan clone project 2.0 to prevent similar lapses.

Seriously, I will sometimes be out of pocket...not always planned or predicted. When I return, please be gentle...didn't mean to make promises I couldn't keep.

Meanwhile, we should have a firmware update in a week or two that will take care of several things you have reported: PL/DPL with Fire tone-out; unexpected LNK during analog scanning. As soon as it is fully tested and posted to our site, I'll try to let you know (but, just in case, if someone else posts the link when it goes live, that's OK, too).;)

Actually, lots of stuff going on. You might want to keep an eye on my icon for the next few months...
