i know you have a high loyalty towards uniden and an even higher loyalty towards optiz--and thats fine.
but, no. the evidence doesn't support your conclusions; you're pulling conclusions out of thin air. there is no evidence that paul is on vacation. did he declare it? maybe paul was abducted by aliens...
everyone who downloaded their software was required to submit their email address; we all are on their mailing list. they even managed to email me about things that are not related to the 396t--what we signed up for--or even scanners for that matter. a mass emailing about this subject would have been easy to do.
First, yes, the alien abduction is another possibility. I just figured that another reason was more likely.
As for loyalty, yes, I greatly appreciate everything Paul has done for the scanner community, including this board. I also have several GRE units, so I'm not so sure it's blind loyalty, as I like those units as well. In fact, if I were buying a base/mobile P25 scanner today, it would be the PRO-2096. That said, the PRO-96 and BCD396T are very competitive units. I would say the BCD396T has the advantage at present based on the features I use/need. But, I own both and use both daily.
Yes, you said it exactly right - EVERYONE who DLed the UASD submitted their email. However, that is little to do with those who have reported the problem, which is maybe 10% of the owners, if that many. Maybe they didn't keep tabs on THOSE email addresses which is why they are asking for submissions to a specific email address. I can understand their not wanting to start a panic by emailing everyone with a 396 (and likely some who don't even own one) with such a message. That's not loyalty - that's good business sense.
As for Paul, I know from his past posts that he makes frequent trips to Japan on business. Maybe his laptop broke. There are a lot of explainations that are possible. All I'm asking is that we give the guy a break, and he deserves a vacation if he hasn't had one in about a year (which the evidence DOES support unless he was making posts on vacation).
There are a few other explainations I can think of, too, but I don't even want to mention those, as I hope none of them are true for all our collective sake. I too hope we hear from him soon and we can stop the guesswork about Paul and get back to discussing the BCD396T.
