Not sure if it is true, but I for one am glad that their first product wasn't something adapted to the automobile from a German airplane. They would have ended up named Motorfokker.

$530.00! I guess thats not bad. :(

Would having a built in card really make a diffrence? Were still talking about the same electronics I belive. Or is the design one of a lesser amp. drain?

$530.00 WOW only about 15 bucks more than I paid for my 296d. Another reason I should have waited.

i have been getting 11 to 12 hours out a 2300 nimh pack for a bc 296.
by the time the 396 comes out, the capacity should be about 2500 to 2600 mah (solid).

Just keep in mind that the 396 will use 3 AA batteries and not 4

APCO-25, backlight, and close call usage could be a factor for battery life, but better battery choices are now available now that Uniden has discarded the pack.

Uniden is going to introduce a fuel cell the size of 3 AA batteries to power the 396 for long durations. It will be announced at Dayton in May. See the water outlet near the bottom of the battery compartment in the prototype pictures.

BCD396T DIGITAL AUDIO QUALITY

Forgive me if this has asked,
I do not own any of the Unidens that decode P-25 systems. Mainly because I read about all the problems people have with these radios( constant adjustments/too loud or too soft,..... ect). I own both the 96/2096 and the audio for digital/decode sound is excellent and at the same volume as analog.
So my question is,
Has Uniden addressed this issue in this new radio?
I also have a BC-780XLT that I really enjoy, so it isnt that I don't like Uniden. Just wish they get the digital audio issues resolved before releasing another P-25 radio.

I think UPMan addressed this in a post somewhere down the line and mentioned that it should be fixed.

Sounds like a great scanner, will be selling everything I got, just to get one probably. lol :D Just reading through the manual and wondering, if compared to past scanners, about how long will it be before the scanner is released for sale. Compared to past scanners type acceptance until they were released?

Also, the 8.33 freq step, is that for the 700 band?

Hello,

8.33 is for the VHF Air band implemented over in Europe. I think the US is due to go over the new step in a few years.

It ain't much to look at (sorry Paul), but its capabilities more than make up for that. Now to read through the manual...

Is the UHF airband included? I don't see it mentioned anywhere in the manual. Unlike the 296 this scanner (based on the info in the manual) is lacking coverage from 54-108, 174-216, 225-400 MHz. What gives?

I really wanted to get this scanner, now I just don't know.

The preliminary O/M on the FCC site doesn't reflect the scanner's full feature set or frequency coverage. Actual coverage is:

25-512 (continuous)
764-776
794-956 (excluding cellular)
1240-1300
