In the specs of the BCD396T posted by UPman a couple threads ago, one of the items listed is : Trunking Activity Indicator. Does this mean a return to the activity "dots" that were present on the BC235/245 series? I hope so as that was a pretty neat indicator of general activity on the system......

Re: 296D now or 396T in the fall?

and I have heard the sensitivity on the new scanner is worse.

I too am wondering where this info comes from???? If it's like the 246T then I would say that it's not true.... But, if he's comparing the Close Call to Signal Stalker II (GRE) then I would say true, but because they use diffrent methodologies for their "capture" ability. To answer the question on which one to get.... I think the 396 is the way to go (if not simply just because of the battery situation) not to mention ALL of the other features!

Also, as I recall, Uniden is able to flash updates for problems that may arise. When I first got the 246T I was slightly dissappointed with the VHF CivAir receive, but the newest firmware for that radio did correct the "problem" and now it's one of the best VHF CivAir receivers I have. Uniden has been very keenly listening to customers and is able to support complaints relativly quickly.

When will the beta testers and UPMan be able to speak on the operations of the 396 like reception and such?

UPMan, how long does or will the beta testing last on this radio? I'm just curious as to when we can get some more info on this radio, as I'm sure we are all anxious to find out more.

Safetyobc:

I read your post the other day about Hamstation having
the BCD396T's by the end of July. (Where did it go?) Anyway, I went to the website and ordered my BCD396T. $525.00 and $10.00 shipping, and no sales tax. I called Scannermaster today and I wanted to know if there was a PC cable that I could buy for the radio. Scannermaster told me that the BCD396T will come with a cable, they also said that Uniden will have software available when released. So I will be all set to get started when the radio arrives.

When I bought my Pro-96 it came with nothing, not even a belt clip. Total price $563.00.

That sounds like you bought a used radio and the person that returned it failed to put the clip back in the box. The Shack is well known for selling stuff that has been returned.

I called Hamstation today, the salesmen there his name is Jeff.
He said that Hamstation will have them by the end of July. If this is true: my guess is that all testing is done and production of these units has already started. During production they will test the ___t out of each unit before it goes into the box. I do not know if they will put each unit in a vice though. Why Uniden hasn't released any sensitivity specifications yet? Your guess is as good as mine.

I bought my Pro-96 9/19/03. I don't think that they even included belt clips back then, did they? It looked new, it smelled new, there wasn't a scratch on it. There isn't a scratch on it now, just some superglue spots on the sides that I can't get off when I glued the grip pads back on. Anybody know what will take superglue off?

Two questions, sorry if they have been asked...

Will the close call pick up Apco digital signals? Or just analog?

Does UPman stand for UNiden project manager?

Thanx :!:

Whooey: UPMan is not a product manager. He is a representative of Uniden. They probably will come out with a Base/Mobile
edition of the BCD396T but I haven't heard any talk about it. In the meantime, spend some of that money of yours and get a BCD396T. It will be a good investment.

UPMan = Uniden Product Manager on these boards. On the adult-oriented boards I visit it means something else entirely.

Sorry about that UPMan. Now, what about those sensitivity
specifications? Do you have them on hand? (Uniden is not going to put out a scanner such as the BCD396T with bad sensitivity specifications.)

"Hey so will the close call capture digital signals along w/ analog"

Since the 246T picks up close-call digital, just with the screech, it only makes sense that the 396 will do so but convert to audio...

Usually fingernail polish remover will release the bond in a few seconds. Hope it helps,

I give it a try: Thanks Paul.
I'd try a very small spot of it on some hidden spot on the inside of the box first. Acetone (nail polish remover) will disolve some plastics.
