Ok, so I hit the 200 entry limit on trunked system channels pretty quickly - any suggestions on working around this?
Any idea why an arbitrary limit anyway? Given that they moved to dynamic memory allocation, any limits anywhere seems a bit odd.

Assuming you're talking about the 200 talkgroup limit, the many times we discussed this, the bottom line has always been that anymore than that amount (200), will take too long for the radio to evaluate that many TGs and risk losing transmissions, etc.

My suggestion for a work-around would be to create duplicates of the same system and split the talkgroups on each by region or county or agency, etc.

That's why there's the Pro-96, BC250D and BC296D, which used are even cheaper.

the bcd396t is the replacement for the bc296d. the bc 250d is discontinued.
i think you will only find these radios used now.

It's hard to see much in the avatar.. maybe for good reason as the final design may not yet be set in stone. Looks pretty cool though from what I can see.

Hopefully we will see some better pics of it soon... please? ;)

No, but it will allow you to track your scanner when shipping it back for print-screen issues...

(Sorry, I couldn't resist)

With all it does, will it follow or LTR Passport or Multinet? or are those still out of reach?
I have FOUR towns within my listening range who are all on LTR systems, and Six Flags nearby is as well.

If it only does 10 like the 396, there won't be much room for all those you would go through. I use 8 for my local stations.

Folks,

There has been a wiki page setup for the BCD996. Please post any updates, information, etc to this page so that we can have a complete reference page for this new scanner.

http://www.radioreference.com/wiki/index.php/BC996T

This will allow us to point people to the Wiki page to hopefully avoid the problem with folks asking the same question 4000 times.

Thanks!

Could someone set up a wiki page for the BCD996 so the same questions don't get asked 4000 times.

Does anyone know if this scanner is DIN-E size? If so, is it made to be in-dash mounted like the RS PRO-2096 is? I would definetly replace my PRO-2096 with the 996T and GPS - i like the idea location based scanning thus far! :D

"Does anyone know if this scanner is DIN-E size?"

The feature list says "DIN-E sleeve included" if that's what you are asking...

Paul, Can you give me a heads up on the dimensions at this time?

I really wish someone would make something that isn't 7 or more inches wide. I can't seem to find a mobile scanner that will fit into the open space compartment of my Impala and modification to it is out of the question. Just curious on the size of this thing...

And really it doesn't matter, I'm still going to get one, it sounds awesome so far.

UPMan,

Thank you, Paul. Temporary lockout is something I asked you for and you did it. Great!

I also mentioned the idea of GPS bank switching and you did that. WOW!

There are a couple of other things I asked for and I wonder if you addressed them.

1) P25 only mode. (a way to not use CSQ on conventional channels that use P25 only)

2) P25 and CTCSS (or DCS) mode. (a way to not use CSQ on conventional mixed P25 CTCSS channels)

3) Autostore feature where CTCSS or DCS is also stored on hits.

I also mentioned a P25 digital squelch code search and a way to program that in.

I have to say, this looks like it could be my next scanner. I hope the receiver specs are HOT on all bands. The 396 was a step back. I'm spoiled by my 785 receivers! They are great, but rebanding has me SOL. :( So please keep the receiver specs up there.

Thank you again for listening to what the end users would like, and making it a reality.

How about a mod go through and wipe out at least the horribly off-topic posts, I think that'd cut the count at least in half...
