Hey TrentBob, how'd you like those emergency button tests a few minutes ago? They did em on Tac 5 and Tac 4. And earlier today (around 3pm) they were playing with the different alert tones on Emergency Band. Some of them were familiar, some were weird, some I hope they never use lol

I have it on good authority that the TAC channels will have selectable encryption and the SERT channels will be strapped encryption. Since they were testing emergency buttons and tone sets today I would guess they are probably just testing things out.

...hey Dan... I missed the Bucks testing today... I was up Trenton way... good day... just saw your e mail on Fast Lane, I wouldn't mind making the donation but I can surely wait ... I'll check out the Bucks testing on Wed, I'll be around... I haven't heard a new emergency button yet... they would have to use the same sound for everybody when they finally go on line I would think... something that gets attention... Sept 14 is fast approaching...

In the new Scanner Digest Newsletter, there is an article regarding Whistler planning to release two new scanners to replace the 1080 and 1095. Model numbers will be 1088 (handheld) and 1098 (base.) No details yet on Whistler's site. We can only hope there may be some magic in the new models to reduce some of these pesky LSM issues.

... my guess is that it will be years before any scanner addresses LSM... look how long it took to get keypads on these old radios... the 2 scanner companies have been behind the curve the whole time... these new scanners will have the same guts as GRE built them with years ago but they will have keypads like the original 800 and 900 should have had and certainly the 1080 and 1095 should have had... it's just more repackaging of old technology... they will be good scanners with bright bold displays and now keypads they should never have been without... as far as LSM, don't expect any difference...

Yes, that's the date I'm getting from more than one source... same day as the Philly fire muster and the day I'll be packing for my honeymoon...

Heh, already told her the APX goes with me. But I will be limiting my monitoring to fire channels only, so it should be reletively quiet.

Ah, yes the well loathed "This is a test of the Zetron 2000 series paging terminal" broadcasts... Can't wait till that system is upgraded. Tower selection was antiquated about a decade ago...

Out of curiosity, is the new system in the 436/536 already or do you have to manually add the system? I'm pretty sure I know the answer but want confirmation from others. Thanks

As far as I can tell it is in the database, the individual talk groups do not appear to be segregated out as of about 2 weeks ago. I programmed my 436 from the database.

I am hearing long alert tones at random intervals today on the Paging Channel. I was in the area of the Warminster West Diner.

Also saw some activity on a new TG but it wasn't there long enough to verify the TGID. I wonder what is going on?

There was mention in the last update PDF that some people were in town working on 155.550 to make it simulcast from all towers (versus the current tower select method) so it's likely them working on that task. As for the new talkgroup I'm not nearby today to monitor so I can't speak for it.

The radio techs have been working for several hours today with the new MDC7500 consoles and primarily the Ivyland transmitter on the 155.55 dispatch frequency. All radio tech comms are on the new 700 MHz trunk system TG 7999. This is still continuing at 1440.
