It's fairly boring here now, just a BUNCH of patrol cars lined down the street, news vans with their towers in the sky, and nosy neighbors who keep walking up and down the street.

Seeing the "bear" roll past was pretty cool. Still no choppers.

Police say the suspect is a Vietnam vet.
Isn't that always the case.
I'm a 'Nam vet and haven't been homeless or shot anyone in years.
As usual the media is causing problems at the scene.
Monitored this off and on throughout the day. Thought I heard them say that the VA had no record of the man.
After capture they mentioned changing the telephone line back to normal. Anyone monitor what that entailed? Were all incoming calls being intercepted by PD?
Amazing how long these standoffs can last.

Swat-2 is active. Someone was shooting at police near Scalybark... the mother has taken one pistol away from the suspect, but he's already stated he won't be taken alive.

Westover talkgroup.

EDIT: Suspect in custody at 11:40AM.

>> I would guess the far went parts of gastonia would not have great coverage with southpoint-tower, especially with a HT. Of course it may never really matter

According to a friend who lives in Cleveland County, his state-issued handheld, which also has the Mecklenberg Co TRS programmed into it, loses affiliation around the area of the Cleveland Co Mall (the eastern side of Shelby).

The CMPD had a three way conference line set up between the house, SWAT and 911.
All of the suspect's outgoing calls were to the 911 call center.
"BEAR" had set a cell phone on the front porch but he never used it.
CMPD was concerned that he had service with Time-Warner that if they cut the cable line that they would lose service.
The house had service with AT&T.
They did cut the line from his satellite dish so he could not watch the situation outside on local tv.

EMS confusion

SO as I look through the database I can't figure out the correct useage for the EMS talkgroups. AFAIK they dispatch on EMS dispatch then most of the time they only use MED-2. There are both 9 EMS and 9 MED talkgroups but none of them hardly ever seem to be used. What is the difference between the EMS tg's and the MED tg's other than the MED is the one that it would appear the charlotte Medic units use? And then there are the 2 EMS ops channels.

You're correct -- most of the time they will use MED-2. However, if they have a large scale incident (auto accident, for example) -- they sometimes put those units on another talkgroup by themselves. As for why they have so many.. maybe someone else can answer that question :)

Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

I don't know if this has been passed along yet or not. There is talk of getting rid of the simulcast on MED-9 (462.950) and instead all Minitor pagers (both medic and VFDs) activated on the VHF frequency, 156.165. Another proposal is immediately being assigned an EMS or Fire ops channel at the time of dispatch to reduce radio traffic on Meck Fire and Medic dispatch. For the complete details, go to http://mecklenburgcountyfire.org/docs/VHF_paging.pdf

Milair in Charlotte?

I've not spent any real effort in Milair monitoring through 25 years of the hobby.
Anyone have any quick frequencies that I can plug in and hear traffic without monitoring or recording for hours?

I've never sent attachments on the forum but here it goes. These are pretty general but should get you started. I don't really have the patience, or time, to sit hour on end waiting for something to pop up either.

Car to Car

I've heard references to going to "car to car" on the patrol talkgroups. It just happened a minute ago and it sounded like part of the conversation was somehow tripping the repeater on the dispatch talkgroup.

Do they have the ability to go simplex and if so do they do it on the input or output frequency?

Tg 33136?

Anyone know who is using the above TG?
-Comms include:
-Ballroom
-Hangar
-Bank employee
-Corporate Center
From what I can guess I would assume it may be private security for the BOA building. Googling "corporate center" shows that this is part of the BOA building. Communication ID's are always CS1 to CSsomething.
Others I'm trying to identify from Unitrunker:
3632
14608
16336
21456
1232
2960
16336
21424
32016
28528
I tend to go through periods of Unitrunker use to ID new TG's on the Charmeck System.
FYI-Anyone in the area with a 246/15/396/996-I highly recommend the new BcTool for logging and recording. Alot of nice features and it's freeware.
