Dog,
Thanks.
Sound like the BOA security spend alot of time guarding the buffet lines at lunch.
You going to help me out with any of the others on my list above?

Rule #1 in the ExSec. world.
Eat when you can, sleep when you can, cause you might not be able to later on.

That's uniform security watching the buffet lines.
For the people eating there it may be their last lunch before getting laid off that afternoon.

The dudes upstairs have theirs catered.

CMPD Citizens Academy

CMPD has announced the Spring Citizen's Academy to begin on March 4th, 2008. This is a class that meets each Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6-9 pm for 10 weeks. It covers most of the topics that police officers take in their 26-week academy but on a much condensed version. Some topics are hands-on and others are lectures and discussions. There is no cost to this Citizens Academy and no participation is expected at the end of the class. You get to view the 911-center, learn about gangs, patrol procedures, firearms, ethics, and many related police topics. Ride-along oportunities are available. For more information and to sign up for the class go to this web site:

http://www.charmeck.org/Departments/CMPD/Join+the+Force/Police+Training+Academy/Citizens+Academy.htm

I took the citizens academy class back in 2002 and hope to do it again this time. You will learn a lot about the police and their activities. It may help your understanding of what you hear on the scanner. A telephone number is available to call if you have questions about the class or you may pm me on this board.

Jeff,
Been out of town on business all week. Have fired up the radios again and will let you know.
Can I assume that these private security firms such as the one with BOA pay a fee to the city to use the TRS? Certainly cheaper than creating their own?

I don't know about "fee or no fee."

But when you consider how closely some security officers work with the CMPD patrol units in the uptown area, it would make sense to have some private agencies on the city's trunked system.

For instance - talkgroup 5424 / Government Center Security. Most of the people providing security in the Government Center work for a private security company. I think the only exception are the uniformed CMPD officers at some of the public entrances.

If you have security on the same radio system as local public safety, someone on the Bridge at 911 could easily monitor the private security comms - when alerted, and even patch their comms into a CMPD talkgroup or regroup channel if a situation warrants.

I would not be surprised if there are multiple talkgroups for private security services, although I have no evidence of such. Just by themselves, BOA has several key buildings in the uptown area, and a couple of them seem to have a higher level of facility security for entry than the corporate center. For instance, the guards for the underground entry to Founders Hall will do a underside and interior inspection of my vehicle before I can pull off the street.

SWAT Training

This is from the CMPD public website:

SWAT Training at Site off Rea Road on 2-20

Police will have a significant presence around the Wesley United Methodist Church at Rea Road and Edenbridge Lane starting around 10 AM. Wednesday, February 20th. CMPD’s SWAT team will be conducting scenario-based training at a vacant residential site off of Rea Road.

Neighbors in the area should have received telephone notifications of the training so people would understand why so many police vehicles were in the area.

The training is expected to go until 6 p.m.

CFD Ops Channel I-India?

Awhile back I noticed CFD was using Ops channel I along with A-H. RR database shows talk group 16688 for ops channel I. I programmed it into 2 trunking scanners and have yet to hear any traffic on 16688. Anybody hearing anything there?

If you look in the database under Mecklenburg County, you'll find the TRS system, at the top of the list of talkgroups there is a great tabular layout of the PD divisions. You'll see the divisions listed by name i.e. "South" division and by number i.e. "22".

Units in each division have a 6 digit i.d. starting with their division as in "221024" would be a south division unit. The last four digits indicate response area, sergeants, etc. There are multiple response areas within each division. For a good explanation of that you can go to CMPD's website:

http://www.charmeck.org/Departments/CMPD/Patrol+Divisions/Home.htm

Also, going back to that table you'll see that various division dispatch talkgroups are patched together. So to hear South division you may have to also monitor Providence division (both are shown as "F" under the patched column).

Enjoy your trip to Charlotte.

I'm a student attending UNC-Charlotte, and just received this in my email:

Four U.S. Army UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters will land on campus at approximately 8:30 a.m., Friday, April 4 at recreational field No. 6, which is located above the women’s softball field. The Blackhawks will transport cadets from the University’s U.S. Army ROTC program to a weekend training exercise at Fort Jackson, S.C. University officials have been briefed about the exercise. The helicopters should not impact the campus, given the remote location for their landing, but we wanted you to be aware.

There might be some MIL-AIR action tomorrow morning! Sadly, I have an 8am class to attend.

Swat Standoff & Attack by Airplanes

I noticed from WSOC that a standoff occured with SWAT being called out. The suspect was wanted on warrants and later surrendered. Anyone hear any of this traffic?

Channel 9 also reported approx. 250 calls to 9-1-1 about the planes spraying the city for cankerworms. Did anyone happen to catch any radio traffic concerning this?

I wish I had good enough coverage from home to pick up the CMPD system and listen in. :(

Huntersville Chase

I'm guessing by no one's response that they weren't monitoring the chase. Chopper 9 showed some awesome footage of the chase & wreck. I'm glad no one was hurt as a result of those dirt bag crooks. Best part of all was all three suspects/crooks being apprehended! :)
