I'm guessing by no one's response that they weren't monitoring the chase. Chopper 9 showed some awesome footage of the chase & wreck. I'm glad no one was hurt as a result of those dirt bag crooks. Best part of all was all three suspects/crooks being apprehended! :)

Damn work gets in the way of all that monitoring;-)
Don't think my employees would appreciate me holing up in my office everytime something's happening!

I didn't even think about it. I could have changed my radio zone and listened in live. Our dispatch had alerted us in case the chase went north on 77 rather than south.

Was good to see all 3 local channels had air coverage. I first saw it on NBC6 and they were carrying it live. I turned up my scanner but could only catch bits and pieces of the chase. IF that mower had flipped off the bridge over I-85 the outcome could have been a lot worse. The police did their job, but did hear that these young men were repeat offenders who had been in trouble before. Why does our judicial system have a revolving door for those that just go out and create more havoc and crime in our city. Who is at fault? We get hit with a 15% increase on our water rates because citizens used less water. Now lets see if the city and county can do something about the repeat offenders that are stalking our streets, not just here, but all over the state.

Charmeck TG 11280

Found a new TG using Unitrunker that has had alot of traffic.
Seems to be related to the light rail system due to mentions of LRV (light rail vehicle).
However, there is alot of traffic with law enforcement and logged EMS involved with a woman giving birth.
Anyone know if CATS is using their own security or is CMPD in charge of stations and law enforcement on the trains?
Will continue to log and try to identify.

Undisclosed urban location.
I remember reading several weeks ago in the Charlotte Daily Blab that CMPD would be handling security on the trains and observe the stations for any activity.
During high profile events at the Cable Box (formerly known as Bobcat Arena) they would have CMPD at all LR stations to protect the out-of-towners.
Screw the daily riders.

Charlotte Mecklenburg TRS interference/birdies?

Hello all, I currently monitor the Charlotte Mecklenburg TRS and also the Mooresville TRS with my Uniden BCD996t. I receive both systems with a strong clear signal, however on the Charlotte Mecklenburg TRS sporadically I receive some type of interference/birdies/data transmission...*sound like a jackhammer/machine gun*on just about any and all of the Charlotte Mecklenburg TRS talk groups. As far as the Mooresville TRS goes I have no problem at all with this issue. Can anyone tell me why I am encountering this problem only with the Charlotte Mecklenburg TRS? And what can I do to possibly fix the problem? A little more background on what exactly the scanner is doing... while the scanner is an operation, I can be receiving everything well on both systems with no problem and all of a sudden the interference/birdies will just start out week on a talk group and get louder and louder and deadlocked on whatever talk group that stops on and I have to hit the scan/resume to get it to go away, and then it will scan for a while with no problem and then it will start again a few minutes later. I have the Charlotte Mecklenburg TRS programmed as typeII Motorola standard... that is correct right?

I would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions regarding this matter.

Thanks!

I monitor using the below radios and live near 485 and Idlewild Rd and hear no such interference on the Charmeck TRS...too far away to hit the Mooresville system.
I'm using a combo of the RS 800 ducky or a Wilson Yagi stuck in my closet (long story).
Using any of the 10 or so antennas I have hanging around; I have no issues such as you describe.
Do you have another scanner or can you take the 996 mobile to see if it is a problem specific to your home?

Any of you Charlotte dudes using Unitrunker?
Really helps to narrow down unidentified TG's.
I will run UT for 24 hours and then load the high post count TG's into a separate system in the 396 or 15 and let BcTool log and record for a period of time.
I've been able to identify and add about 15 to 20 TG's to the database over the last year.
Still leaves me 4 or 5 radios to monitor local traffic while this goes on.

It has added something new to my enjoyment of the hobby.

Hi Westside,
I monitor the Charlotte system almost all the time. I have a couple scanners in the house and car and also occasonaly use a CMPD radio too. I never have had that situation EXCEPT when it was my error. Sometimes I accidently turn the squelch knob instead of the volume knob. That can cause problems after a while. It has happened a number of times. I just turn up the squelch knob and problem is solved until I do that dumb thing again.

Troubles receiving Charlotte Mecklenburg

Derek the more I think about it, you may have some issues similar to me.

Several years back I could receive the Charlotte Mecklenburg TRS pretty decent in Mooresville. That lasted until they changed the location of the North Tower. From then on, I have had a very hard time receiving it inside on my scanners. My 800 radio does some better due to its freq range specifics.

Due to your location up in West Iredell way, your distance may inhibit your reception (at least part of the time). This may be the cause of some of the garbledness & motorboating sounds you are hearing (could be the control channel sound coming through). That has been my general experience with trunked systems and reception range.

I have been monitoring this TG most of the day and it does indeed appear to be associated with the Light Rail System or CATS. Have heard references to park and ride lots, platoforms, and ticket machines. Heard no security issues here as of yet. Would love to see some of the TG's you have through UniTracker.

Hi David,

I've been monitoring the talkgroup today and I'm guessing it's the fare inspectors. They have them riding the trains randomly checking tickets.

Today they put out a broadcast on a missing boy, an inspector radioed back that he was with CMPD and they had found the boy.

The talkgroup listed in the database as Light Rail 1 is very busy with trains calling in their locations, as they approach stations, etc.

Definitely know it's light rail related, just down to hearing someone identify the channel name at some point. Don't like to submit data until I can figure out exactly what the channel name is.
Anyone pop those other TG's into their scanners yet?
Let me know what you come up with.

I stuck them all in a system and it's logging/recording at home.

I'll sit down tonight and go through the recordings.

Has anyone noticed Charlotte Fire is now being assigned med channels for MVAs and medicals now instead of their ops channels? Who would have thought, going directly with Medic on their channels. What a concept!
