Has anyone noticed Charlotte Fire is now being assigned med channels for MVAs and medicals now instead of their ops channels? Who would have thought, going directly with Medic on their channels. What a concept!

They've been doing that since about Monday I think. I need to update my systems b/c the med talkgroups are in my Medic system rather than CFD.

Regarding Lightrail, from what I've gathered 11280 is "Dispatch". I've heard fare inspectors as well as calls to "Technology" whenever there is an issue with ticket machines, etc.

Lightrail 1 as shown in the database is called "Control" and seems to be limited to handling train movements. I've heard them go to Lightrail 3 for conference type conversations but I've yet to hear anyone on Lightrail 2.

I also noticed yesterday while uptown a CMPD car parked by 7th. station with a front license plate that read "Transit". I haven't heard CMPD on any transit talkgroups so I'm guessing they use whatever division talkgroup they are in at the time?? I'd like to find out if they use a particular division number.

Is there some sort of checkpoint tonight on Independence Tact? All they keep saying is "next car outbound/inbound is a [vehicle description]" Almost sounds like LIDAR setup, but no speeds are being stated so I'm assuming checkpoint.

Obama was in town at the Cricket Arena last night. He and his 10 car black Suburban convoy passed me as I was stuck in the traffic on Independence around 5:45 last night.
Got home and most traffic was on Events channels with alot of talk about the "actor".
Sounded like he was on his way out around 7:30.
Tried searching through the Fed. freq's for some Secret Service, but probably too far away from the scene.

Anyone near Gastonia, Hillary will be there around 1 today.

Scott,
Thanks for the confirm on these. I am pretty sure I thought I heard some PD traffic on 11280. Wondering if the "transit" police are on this TG.

Anyone know the different use between MED channels and the EMS channels?

Is the above happening on an optional basis?
I heard some dispatch calls on CFD last night that were purely medical and they were dispatched to the normal CFD OPS channels.

MED channels are used by Medic on calls inside the city and EMS channels are for outside the city in the county. As to your second question, I have no idea as I've noticed this too. Maybe they just assign them MED channels when all of their ops channels are full.

Positive ID on TG

TG 11280 is LYNX Light Rail Fare Inspectors. Managed to have one checking tickets close enough to catch his radio traffic. Also, it is quite possible that their private security/special police use this same TG. Their presence on the trains are random. I'll keep you posted on my findings. (And now I see that this is already in the DB. Oops. Sorry.)

CFD and MED Channels

From what I gather, the Medic/CFD joint dispatch entails the following.

All Motor Vehicle Accidents will have both Medic Units and all responding CFD companies assigned to MED-4, all Violent related calls (Assaults, etc...) both Medic Units and CFD Companies will be assigned to MED-3. For all other calls, the previous format will still be followed (I.E. CFD will be assigned a fireground channel (B-I) and the Medic Units will be assigned MED-2.) CFD Alarm also monitors and provides information to responding units on both MED-3 and MED-4.

Thanks for the information.
Anyone know the background on why the change was implemented?

Fire on "800" TG-TG 34704

I am trying to identify another unidentified TG on the Charmeck system.
The TG is 34704. Lots of traffic and it is definitely fire related.
However, I'm unsure whether it is Meck County or CFD.
They call the channel "800", as in "Quint 1 on 800"

Any help?

David I'm thinking Monroe FD. I believe they joined Char/Meck's TRS. Considering they probably still have mostly UHF/VHF stuff, that might be why you heard them calling "on 800."

34704 is MFD-DISP, Monroe Fire Dept.

most of their comms are still on 453.125, but eventually they will migrate to 800 MHz.

Thanks for identifying.
Wonder if Monroe FD is a sign of Union County making the transition to full 800 on it's own or joining the Charmeck system.
Still trying to figure out why the highly under-utilized Mint Hill TRS even exists...

From what I hear, Charlotte is wanting to expand their system and be in control of a regional radio system. Just as they have ventured into Gaston county and Union County, they also wanted to migrate to York county several years ago. They want everyone to come to them for a lot of things. Even in the Public Safety field "Charlotte" wants to be the leader in many areas. Several years ago there was an article in the Charlotte Observer that stated the Mayor of Charlotte was upset that some of the surrounding counties got a set amount of grant money from the Department of Homeland Security. He made the statement that the money should have gone to Charlotte since they would be the primary target. Even though they got by far the largest chunk of money, they feel they should have gotten some of the money that was for the surrounding counties.

While realistically Mint Hill, Pineville, etc should not have separate systems, I do understand why they would want their own system. Politics do plan a large part in things like this but there are apparently several agencies in the Mecklenburg area that feel the same.

Oh well, sounds like the great state of "Charlotte/Meck" is .. I'll just leave it at that.

Just one's opinion.

Is there a standoff going on? They're blocking all the streets off near Independence. Heard them talking about a negotiator as well.

EDIT: Suicide attempt, someone is on a bridge. Negotiating right now, edit... complete. The person is safe now.

SHP Monroe after the storm

Did anyone catch SHP Monroe last night after the storms? They couldn't get out on low band or their talkgroup on 800.

They were able to use the PD Mutual Aid talkgroup. They asked CMPD to go over to their talkgroup and broadcast for all the shp units to switch to the mutual aid talkgroup. I also heard Charlotte dispatching a call for service to "any available SHP unit on mutual aid". So I don't know if their phones were out too.

So for some reason they could talk/receive on the mutual aid talkgroup but their own talkgroup and low band were both out.
