You won't find trunking on a radio like this...it's a scanner, but it isn't a scanner...it's actually a communications receiver. What's the difference, you might ask? They scan slower, and have wider frequency ranges. I own an Icom R10 and an R7100...sure, they scan, but one bank at a time out of ten. However, I agree with Lindsay...ass kickin' *****in radio!

I find the use of USB interesting. With the disappearance of serial ports on newer laptops this is a great feature. Unfortunely it appears you can not control the radio via USB.
The other item of interest is ICOM has finally broken through that pesky 1.3 GHz barrier.

USB support in a device is really fun to program.
Another downside of the R20 is the converter that is needed for the serial comms. My Kenwood D-7A uses a mini jack but it is RS-232 levels. My BC250 actually uses a mini-usb jack. It is nice to just use a cable and plug it into the computer.
I also wonder if it is possible to tap the discriminator and with the dual watch have both a control channel and voice channel receiver for trunker in one radio. I was able to do it with the VR-5000 but I am disappointed in the VR-5000 as a receiver.

So far, from what I read, you can link several or all banks together to scan, PLUS it scans at 100 chan/sec on VFO mode. No word yet on speed for memory scan.

if the icom r20 goes into the 3ghz range.. maybe it has a way to pick up video signals.. and poss a port to output to a monitor of some sort?
havent read that much in depth about it.
I do have a icom rc10 and love it.. esp for mil air AM freq (useful near dobbins AFB that i live near, esp with blue angels coming in 2 weeks)

Yeah, I love my ICR10, too. It is good for military monitoring, and it makes a good emergency receiver for shortwave when a telescopic antenna is connected.
The R20 is pricey...but I just downloaded the manual and read what it can do, and it looks like a worthwhile investment

Will the Dual Watch work for two frequencies in the same band? I got the impression that one frequency has to be below 174 MHz and the other above 174 MHz (or whatever the dividing point is).
